Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County is seeking to expand current services with the addition of a full-time Director of Midwifery.  Kings County Hospital operates a state-of-the-art Labor and Delivery room and a newly renovated Women's Health Center, which serves residents of Brooklyn and Staten Island. The hospital is academically affiliated with SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University.

 

Kings County Hospital is located in the East Flatbush/Prospect-Lefferts section of Brooklyn, close to the 2 and 5 subways. Our patients are diverse, with the majority being afro-Caribbean. Most of our patients are native English speakers. Knowledge of French/Haitian Creole is helpful, but not required.

The Director of Midwifery is responsible for the overall planning, development and management of the administrative, clinical, educational, research and evaluative functions required for a midwifery practice embedded within the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health.  Staff midwives provide primary healthcare in inpatient and outpatient settings within a collaborative model of care to clients across the health spectrum.

Responsibilities Plans, develops, manages and directs all aspects of the Midwifery PracticeEvaluates, responds to, reports and assesses the quality of midwifery careResponsible for hiring, evaluating and terminating midwifery staff, including implementing performance-improvement measures as appropriateProvides and coordinates staff development for midwives and the interdisciplinary team
Participates in lectures and clinical supervision of learnersParticipates in planning and supervision of childbirth and health education programsCollaborates with other services and programs, including new program development and maintenanceProvides clinical midwifery care Participates in the NYC Health + Hospitals Midwifery Council and Women’s Health CouncilIs available 24/7 for consultation regarding midwifery care and or sick call service coverageParticipates in leadership activities within the Department of OB/GYN and Women’s Health Qualifications Board Certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB)Minimum 5 years experience in Clinical and Administrative Midwifery Leadership
