Director, Operations East Region

This role is responsible for the day-to-day operations and longer-term planning for multiple manufacturing and distribution sites within Carlisle Architectural Metals (CAM), including manufacturing, production control, engineering, inventory control, purchasing and shipping and receiving. This leader defines goals, improves technologies, and resolves problems; and translates customer requirements into state-of-the-art manufacturing strategies and processes, resulting in cost-effective processing and profitable manufacturing of company products. This role also develops operations-related plans, budgets, and policies and procedures.

As a key member of the leadership team, you will work closely with the Vice President of Operations and Supply Chain directing operations and successfully executing manufacturing plans, production of goods, and delivery to customers. This role is also responsible to collaborate with others to ensure quality of products and supply chain management to ensure materials arrive to meet customer request dates and orders are processed and shipped appropriately.

 

Within their responsible sites and collaborating across the organization, the successful candidate has direct responsibility and accountability for strategic planning, project management, equipment specification and procurement, facility layout and design, staffing and team building to ensure operational excellence. It’s imperative that this role work across the organization to ensure all facilities within the assigned region follow manufacturing best practices (safety, quality, delivery, and cost) and manage teams with mutual trust, respect, and integrity.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Leadership Capabilities: Ability to work and be successful with minimal task definition and supervision throughout the execution of assignments. Responsible for the prioritization and organization of projects and tasks, the coordination of workflow, supervision of the personnel, and delegation of assignments to others.

 

Strategic Planning: Ability to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to develop short and long-term strategies that will enhance productivity, efficiency, and profitability of operations. Collaborate with peer sites to execute strategies to leverage best practices across the organization.

 

Facility Planning & Setup: Collaborate with operations and engineering executive leadership to design and implement facility layout improvements ensuring optimal flow and efficiency of automated processes and robotics. Oversee the setup and flawless startup of production lines and infrastructure to meet operational and safety standards.

 

Equipment Procurement: Identify, evaluate, and procure state-of-the-art automation and robotics for our manufacturing needs. Collaborate with procurement to manage supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely delivery and installation of equipment.

 

Process Development: Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) that are scalable, sustainable, efficient, and aligned with industry best practices.

 

Team Building: Recruit, train, and manage a high-performing team to operate and maintain the advanced technology and robotics. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and innovation within the team focused on SQDC principles.

 

Project Management: Oversee projects within region and/or serve as project manager for projects within region and be accountable for project planning and execution. Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality and performance standards.

 

Operational Oversight: Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of manufacturing operations. Implement improvements to enhance productivity, reduce downtime, and optimize resource utilization. Develop and deliver regular progress reporting and maintain staff productivity measures for internal assessment of performance and ongoing improvement opportunities.

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with all critical stakeholders, including human resources, engineering, maintenance, quality assurance, and supply chain, to ensure seamless integration of manufacturing processes and resolve operational challenges.

 

Compliance & Safety: Ensure all operations comply with relevant safety regulations, industry standards, and Carlisle Company safety policies. Promote a safe working environment through regular safety audits and training.

 

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Excellent critical thinking skills and an initiative-taking approach to optimizing manufacturing processes. Proficiency in manufacturing execution systems (MES), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, and relevant software tools. Persuasive communication and people skills for effective cross-functional collaboration and ability to communicate with all stakeholders including external. Expertise in lean manufacturing principles and deep understanding of manufacturing processes. Strong adaptability, decision making, and resource management skills and abilities. Expertise in leading multiple sites to ensure that operations are running efficiently and effectively, and that customer requirements are met. Partner with the Vice President, Operations and Supply Chain and other senior leaders in the development and formulation of long and short-range strategic planning, budgets (including capital investment), policies, programs, and objectives. Drive innovation management through the business keeping abreast of market trends and creatively applying new technologies across the entire operations value chain. Monitor and oversee quality and continuous improvement initiatives to enable the organization to meet or exceed plan targets. This includes manufacturing, supply chain, and business processes. Define required strategies and define infrastructures and organizational structures to meet company, customer and market expectations proactively. Develop, coordinate and drive the operational plans and establish procedures for maintaining high standards of execution to ensure that products and processes conform to established customer and company requirements. Cascade strategic objectives for Operations and Supply Chain functional leadership. Set and clarify requirements and expectations for direct and matrixed reports based on the strategic direction and needs of the business. Work closely with Human Resources to lead the team with integrity and to establish and maintain a trusting, inclusive, and productive environment that promotes employee wellbeing, engagement and quality of life. Develop and deliver clear and concise communications both up, down, and sideways across the organization. Organize Plant and supplier capacity and technical capabilities to meet planned production schedules. Monitor and oversee operational activities with the objective of maximizing the use of organizational resources to meet and/or exceed established KPI’s for productivity and continuous improvement, safety, quality, delivery, inventory, and cost. Drive organization structures and programs (footprint changes, migration/localization, new product launch, process and equipment requirements) to meet business goals. Monitor and oversee the full value chain from procurement and production to shipment and beyond. Work actively with supply chain leaders to ensure that supply is consistently synchronized to demand to maximize revenue and delivery performance. Take a holistic view of global capacity and through the S&OP process, plan the necessary capacity expansions or shifts to align supply and demand. Work closely with Plant Managers and Finance to understand spending activities & trends, how they match up to targets, and course correct. Draw on relationships with department heads, external partners, and suppliers to make decisions regarding operational activity and strategic goals

 

 

Education and Experience:

 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field; advanced degree or MBA preferred.

 

Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience in manufacturing operations management, with a strong background in automated and robotics-driven environments. Experience in setting up or scaling startup facilities is highly desirable.

 

Working Conditions:

 

Location/Hours: Office setting with active engagement on manufacturing floor across the multiple sites. Standard hours are Monday – Friday from 8am – 5pm local time with overtime and weekend hours required as needed. 40% travel to CAM facilities or for meetings or trainings. May be on call for emergencies or critical issues that arise outside normal working hours.

 

Noise/Climate/Safety: Adherence to safety protocols is critical. Manufacturing can be noisy due to machinery and equipment. May need to use hearing protection or other items to mitigate exposures. Climate may include hot summers; facility may be climate controlled.
