BlackBerry seeks a creative, self-driven patent attorney for its Intellectual Property and Licensing operations. You will be primarily responsible for patent prosecution but will also contribute to licensing support, litigation support, infringement analysis, and portfolio management.
Responsibilities:
Work with BlackBerry engineering teams to create high quality invention disclosuresWork with BlackBerry outside counsel to draft and prosecute patent applicationsIdentify potential licensees of BlackBerry patentsAssess BlackBerry’s patent portfolio in terms of various quality metricsDevelop detailed claim chartsPresent claim charts to potential licenseesDiscuss technical and legal issues related to BlackBerry’s patents with potential licenseesApproximately 5%-10% domestic/international travel may be requiredKey Qualifications:
Licensed patent attorney, registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark OfficeBachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Telecommunication or other related fields5+ years of relevant experience with patent prosecution and/or patent licensingExperience and understanding of patent and portfolio valuationExperience in licensing negotiations and responding to argumentsBroad technical knowledge, industry insight and commercial awareness of the Internet of Things, cyber-security, cryptography, automotive systems, enterprise mobility management, operating systems and applicationsExceptional presentation skills, concise and fluent in communicationAbility to distill complexity via a methodical and structured approachTeam player, self-disciplined, and ability to work cooperatively with othersExemplary ethical standards#LI-NR1
