About the Role:
The Director, Physical Sciences leads a team of professional, in-house journal Editors based in China, India, Japan and Korea, who are responsible for developing and maintaining journals. This role will oversee a journal portfolio in materials science, focusing on strategies for quality, content growth, and profitability globally.
This role takes primary responsibility for the continued development of a strategically important subject area, focusing on strategies for quality, content growth, and profitability globally. Lead the team to execute and implement the opportunities within own area of responsibility to deliver on company goals and objectives.
Success in this role requires a keen understanding of the APAC market, as well as strong collaboration with key organizational partners in editorial operations, content operations, marketing, strategy and sales to deliver against key strategic initiatives.
The Director, Physical Sciences is expected to translate strategic objectives into tactical goals and opportunities for the team, balancing short and long-term needs of the organization and directing the priorities and resources of the team to deliver on Research Publishing targets. They view work in the context of external and internal customers, and drive development initiatives that respond to stakeholder engagement and feedback.
The role is expected to report regularly to leadership on the activities of the team, providing evidence of the subject team’s impact and delivery of strategic goals, and articulating programs and tactics to attract and retain authors and increase growth in their subject area.

Portfolio development
Develop the reputation and competitive position of the portfolio in own subject areaCollaborate closely with marketing, business analysis and portfolio strategy colleagues to identify and map portfolio strengths & opportunities in own subject area and initiate actions to close gapsResponsible for the agreed plans and activities identified in the annual journal development planning cycle.People Management and Leadership
Provide strategic direction and objectives, managing work and resources effectivelyCollaborate strategically as a member of the management team to deliver shared organizational objectives and best practicesEstablish performance culture through regular feedback, check ins and recognitionStakeholder management
Engage with internal and external stakeholders to align the portfolio vision with organizational goals and customer needs. Facilitate cross-functional team collaborations, especially with marketing, editorial operations, and strategy teams.Engage with external stakeholders to understand the rapidly evolving scholarly publishing landscape and promote Wiley’s role.Technical Leadership
Work closely with content operations, marketing and editorial operations teams to build and improve product performance, deliver regional growth strategies and balance workloads.What we look for:
