Your Career

Palo Alto Networks is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Director, Privacy Counsel to join our legal team. As the Director, Privacy Counsel, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our company's compliance with global privacy laws and regulations. You will be responsible for providing legal advice and guidance to stakeholder teams across the enterprise, developing and implementing privacy policies and procedures, conducting privacy impact assessments, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate privacy and data protection considerations into our products and services. This position reports directly to the company’s Data Protection Officer and head of privacy.

Your Impact

Develop and implement privacy policies and procedures in compliance with evolving global privacy laws and regulationsAdvise and provide guidance on privacy-related matters to internal stakeholders, including Product Development, Marketing, Human Resources, and Information Security teamsConduct privacy impact assessments and develop risk mitigation strategies to ensure compliance and protect customer and employee dataLead privacy trainings and awareness programs for employees to foster a culture of privacy and data protectionCollaborate with other legal team pillars, and other stakeholder teams across the company (such as Engineering and Product Development) to integrate privacy and data protection considerations into our products and servicesStay up-to-date with evolving privacy laws and regulations, and provide guidance on their impact to the businessCoordinate with external counsel on privacy-related legal matters, including any regulatory inquiries, enforcement actions, and litigationRepresent the company in privacy-related industry forums, associations, and conferences, to drive thought leadershipCollaborate closely with the global resilience and risk functions across the company to ensure that data protection matters are highlightedEnsure compliance with privacy obligations arising from contractual agreements with customers, partners, and vendors

Your Experience

Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school or equivalent military experience requiredActive membership in at least one State BarMinimum of 8 years of legal experience, with a focus on privacy and data protection - In-house experience at a SaaS technology company is preferred but not requiredIn-depth knowledge of global privacy laws, regulations, and frameworks, including GDPR, CCPA, and Data Privacy FrameworkStrong understanding of cloud technology and privacy issues that commonly arise for B2B cloud companies, and the ability to translate privacy requirements into practical solutions for product and engineering teamsProven experience in developing and implementing privacy policies and proceduresExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teamsAbility to provide clear and concise legal advice and guidance to non-legal stakeholdersExperience in handling privacy-related security incidents, regulatory inquiries, enforcement actions, and litigation is preferredCIPP/E, CIPP/US, or other relevant privacy certifications are a plus

Compensation Disclosure

The compensation offered for this position will depend on qualifications, experience, and work location. For candidates who receive an offer at the posted level, the starting base salary (for non-sales roles) or base salary + commission target (for sales/commissioned roles) is expected to be between $200,600/yr to $324,500/yr. The offered compensation may also include restricted stock units and a bonus. A description of our employee benefits may be found  here.
