In this role you will lead category management with responsibility for strategy development and execution for the following globally subcontracted services for Thermo Fisher’s CRO business (Phase 1B-4) across all therapeutic areas. Categories include diagnostic services, Clinical IT Solutions, Decentralized trial services, Centralized services, patient services, Clinical Ancillary Supplies and specialty CRO services.
Ensures that the category strategy is aligned with the functional/business objectives and work closely with Division Business Partners, Quality, Operations, R&D, and Business leaders to ensure category strategies are aligned cross functionally. Leads a Category team responsible for strategic sourcing activities and supplier management functions. Build organizational strength, create robust sourcing strategies, negotiate agreements, lead all aspects of strategic supplier relationships, and drive continuous improvement and savings.

Connects key categories with all levels within Thermo Fisher business divisions ensuring alignment of strategies and financial targetsAccountable for the multi-year category strategy and plan objectives, timelines, and goalsAnalyzes cross-divisional spending and develops global strategic sourcing plans that reduce the total cost of ownership for all business units without compromising quality and service levelsTechnical Responsibilities
Provides thought leadership in developing and implementing sourcing strategiesChampions the use of structured Category Management process to develop category strategies including diversity, sustainability and risk assessment and business continuityApplies AQSCIR (Assurance, Quality, Service, Cost, Innovation, Regulatory) method to develop and drive 3 to 5 year global sourcing strategies focused on identifying and contracting with suppliers that meet category management goalsCommunicates plans and progress to Enterprise colleaguesRuns the contracting process and leads coordination with Legal to ensure relationships are appropriately documentedLeads the supplier qualification, RFP, supplier selection, contract development, implementation, compliance, and ongoing supply base management processAssesses market intelligence for key trends, and uses predictive analytics to make risk mitigation recommendations to the businessDrives supplier consolidation through engaging and supporting Division Business Partners and Vendor Management Organization to qualify preferred suppliers and migrate spend from incumbent, non-preferred suppliersRequires knowledge of onboarding due diligence and continuous assessment of regulatory, compliance, and risk for suppliers used for global clinical trials including audit support by pharma and biopharma customers and worldwide regulatory agencies.Leadership Responsibilities
Drives adoption of global sourcing strategies across the enterprise and ensures ongoing teamworkExtensively partners with Business Development and Alliance Account management to create cohesive solutions across the group in a customer facing role to grow revenue via these partnerships. Occasionally participates and consults in bid preparation and defense.Champions use of eSourcing, Spend Visibility, and P2P tools company-wideWorks with Division Business Partners and functional colleagues to gather business requirements for category strategy developmentCreates and maintains a communication mechanism to ensure coordination with internal colleagues and reporting of sourcing impactLeads a Global Category Team to create expertise in both the areas of spend and in strategic sourcing processesMentors and develops staff through coaching and development plans to address individual areas of improvementImplements talent initiatives to improve Employee Involvement Survey resultsEducation, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Bachelor’s Degree required; Graduate Degree in Business (Preferred), Finance, and/or Technical fieldClinical trials experience required.10+ years of procurement/sourcing experience, including global responsibilities in large matrixed environments and experience in the assigned categoryProven experience leading procurement teams with a focus on mentoring, coaching and performance managementExperience in clinical trial environment is desirableStrong leadership and effective business partnering capabilities – influence without authorityConsistent record leading cross-functional teams in a complex organizationStrong negotiation and presentation skillsStrong understanding of the strategic sourcing and category management processStrong project management skillsRequires ability to deal with ambiguity and the corresponding capacity to make decisions or recommendations based on potentially incomplete informationInternational experience (i s a plus) – working experience in different countries/regions/languagesBenefits:We offer competitive remuneration, annual incentive plan bonus scheme, healthcare, company pension, and a range of employee benefits!
