Position Summary The Director is responsible for oversight of the QRC’s student leadership programming and cultivating activities that promote the vision of the QRC. The Director supports the mission of the QRC by providing support and outreach to students who are queer (lesbian, gay, bisexual, questioning) and trans and helps promote a campus climate that includes queer and trans community members fully in the intellectual and social life of PSU.
The Director provides mentorship and leadership skill development training/support to student employees, student leaders, interns, and volunteers. The Director builds community, cultivates activities, event planning, program development, and evaluation. The Director participates in campus-wide committees to ensure queer and trans people are represented in all aspects of university life. This is a full time, unclassified position with occasional after-hours and weekend hours are required. Minimum Qualifications Demonstrated history of leadership and community involvement with LGBTQQI community and a demonstrated commitment to social justice. Ability to understand and articulate student concerns that includes the intersections of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, religion, and other significant aspects of identity. After-hours availability is required. Evening and weekend event attendance, crisis response and project work expected; Experience and skills in supervising professional and student staff; Demonstrated experience with office organization and clerical skills; Ability to work in teams and encourage collaboration and shared decision making; Demonstrated in-depth awareness and understanding of one’s own cultural background and privilege, how it influences perceptions, values, and practices and engages in the way they shape their relationship to students and staff; Ability to interrupt, disrupt and address prejudice, discrimination, microaggressions and racism that impacts students and staff at the interpersonal, intergroup, and institutional levels; Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years or demonstrated equivalent work experience. Successful completion of background check. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated experience conducting student learning outcomes assessment related to co-curricular activities; Experience with current higher education practice, theory and research; Knowledge of best practices in student program implementation; Experience managing budgets and demonstrated fiscal responsibility; Knowledge of retention strategies and best practices in higher education in retaining gender diverse students; Experience that would support a high degree of creativity and innovation in developing and facilitating strategies to improve student academic success, retention and graduation; Key Cultural Competencies Create an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates differences. Function and communicate effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds. Work Days/Hours Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity.
The starting annual salary for this position will be between $60,384 and $67,937 but may be negotiated above this rate dependent upon the factors above, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
