POSITION SUMMARY:

Natera is seeking a Director of Research in the Molecular Biology Research group to lead the development of innovative technologies and assays supporting the company's Oncology and Early Cancer Detection portfolio. The ideal candidate will have expertise in molecular tools development for nucleic acids, NGS, and expertise in cell free DNA biology and oncology coupled with leadership experience. The Director will work within the larger Molecular Biology, Informatics, and Statistics organization to collaborate on building innovative technology with applications in development of non-invasive tests across Natera’s business units, initially focusing on Oncology and Early Cancer Detection applications. Collaboration, leadership, credibility, and communication are all key attributes for this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Innovation: Stay current with emerging methodologies and technologies in molecular diagnostics, genetics, and oncology. Drive ideation, conceptualization, development of new tools, assays and technologies as well as adoption of new technologies to enhance research capabilities to support development of new product lines. Research Oversight: Oversee the design, execution, and analysis of research innovation, technology and assay development. Ensure scientific rigor and integrity in all research activities. Coordinate with other departments to align research efforts with business objectives. Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams including bioinformatics & data science, medical, and program management to integrate research findings and strategies with organizational goals and product offerings.  Team Leadership & Mentorship: Provide strategic leadership and oversight to ensure alignment with the company’s goals and objectives. Lead and mentor scientists, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning. Support professional growth and development of scientists by providing guidance and tools to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Communication: Present research findings to internal and external stakeholders. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

PhD in molecular biology or related field A minimum of 10 years of post-PhD biotech industry experience including significant leadership experience in diagnostics Expertise in NGS, cell-free DNA, methylation and other advanced molecular biology technologies strongly preferred

 

The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.San Carlos, CA $209,600—$262,000 USD
