Director, Regional Compliance Officer (China & Taiwan)

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced compliance attorney to help implement and sustain Applied Materials’ compliance programs within China and Taiwan. The Regional Compliance Officer serves as a senior compliance leader and ambassador in the region and ensures the successful regional implementation of global compliance initiatives. You will be responsible for compliance counseling, programming, investigation, and reporting in the areas of ethics and integrity, conflicts of interest, anti-bribery and anti-corruption, fraud prevention, and third-party risk management. As a trusted advisor to regional business and functional leaders, the Regional Compliance Officer also drives regionally designed compliance activity and enables productive communication and engagement between the region and global compliance leaders. This is an on-site role based in Shanghai and reporting to the US-based Senior Director, Ethics & Compliance.
**Key Responsibilities**
+ Developing and sustaining trust-based relationships and communication channels with regional executives
+ Continually analyzing compliance-related laws and regulations applicable to the company and their impact on strategy and operations
+ Providing proactive and reactive counsel and guidance to regional executive teams and leaders regarding compliance issues, and serving as their primary point of contact for compliance-related questions, concerns, and escalations
+ Conducting and advising on compliance risk assessments, audits, and due diligence
+ Leading and supporting internal investigations into potential misconduct and (in coordination with Legal & Compliance Organization colleagues) to support litigation and other legal activities
+ Designing, implementing, and overseeing the operation of compliance controls
+ Driving awareness around compliance issues in the region, including developing and delivering training, communicating company policies, and overseeing regional awareness campaigns
+ Partnering with legal and business colleagues to support M&A activity in the region
+ Managing regional outside counsel
+ Supporting company engagement with regional government, industry, and peer groups on compliance and related issues
+ Preparing and presenting periodic reports to various stakeholders, including global and regional executives and leaders, Legal & Compliance Organization colleagues, and control function counterparts
+ Managing and developing other regional compliance team members as either a direct or dotted-line supervisor
+ Undertaking special projects and supporting other compliance program initiatives as may be assigned
**Core Qualifications**
+ J.D. or LLM from an accredited US law school (or local equivalent) and 10+ years’ relevant experience in-house and/or with a top-tier law firm experience in China or Taiwan.
+ Subject matter expertise in the areas of ethics and integrity, conflicts of interest, anti-bribery and anti-corruption, fraud prevention, and third-party risk management.
+ Strong background in conducting internal investigations and risk assessments.
+ Experience supporting and collaborating with global stakeholders at all organizational levels.
+ Politically savvy with strong executive presence and expertise in regional business norms and practices.
+ Ability to influence beyond authority in a complex and matrixed organization.
+ Experience leading a regional compliance program for a multi-national company.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills, impeccable integrity, good judgment, strong analytical skills, flexible, and pragmatic.
+ Collaborative by nature and able to build strong partnerships across cultures and regions.
+ Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and able to manage and prioritize a diverse and complex workload.
+ Fluent in both written and spoken English and Mandarin.
