The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Director of Research Support to work at the UHealth Medical campus in Miami, FL. The Director of Research Support will work with and report directly to the Associate Director for Cancer Control on all outreach matters, including cancer education. For the latter, the Manager will interface closely with the Director of Operations for Cancer Support Services, as well as the Center’s Associate Director for Cancer Support. The manager’s primary responsibility will be to develop, design, and coordinate education and outreach activities, aligned with the many needs of Sylvester’s diverse catchment area. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS + Develops reports summarizing research activity within the department on a regular basis. + Maintains current knowledge of institutional and external policies and procedures to ensure compliance. + Serves as liaison to federal agencies and other funding sources. + Creates reports detailing grant spending and ensures that investigators are appropriately using funding. + Oversees research initiatives and database personnel. + Monitors projects to ensure positive project evaluations, future sustainability, and benefits. + Reviews monthly institutional reports of research account and works with investigators to resolve discrepancies. + Screens department budget assists in the assignment of expenditures and identifies areas of opportunity for cost-saving. + Participates in various University research councils, committees, and research organizations. + Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with university policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on university policy and procedures. CORE QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Bachelor’s Degree in relevant fieldExperience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience Department Specifics: Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Director is responsible for developing and implementing the Cancer Center’s Integrated Outreach Plan with Associate Director. Assist in preparing a triennial Needs Assessment and present to the Cancer Committee for approval and monitoring in accordance with the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer’s standards. Assess the state of cancer education programming at Sylvester and identify areas of need for patients and their caregivers, and for communities in Sylvester’s catchment area. Implementation of a range of educational programming that addresses the needs of patients and their caregivers at Sylvester, including satellite centers. Liaison with staff and faculty throughout Sylvester and the University of Miami to promote educational programming for patients and identify speakers and collaborators. Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations in the catchment area. Plan and assist in the creation of educational events at Sylvester and its satellite centers. Plan and assist in the implementation of educational and screening events in catchment area communities, including DOCS Health Fairs, based on cancer risks and rates documented by Cancer Center’s Cancer Control and Prevention statistical team. Plan and assist in the creation of print and online materials, including those in languages other than English. Responsible for the Annual Community Grant Program that funds community partners to use evidence-based practices to improve cancer prevention, screening and access to care. Serve as Outreach Coordinator on the Cancer Committee, and ensure standards related to education, prevention, outreach and screening are met. Other duties as assigned. Outreach: This position will be responsible for developing Sylvester’s Integrated Outreach Plan, and in turn, coordinating and evaluating related outreach activities within the Center’s catchment area (Monroe to Palm Beach County). Such activities must reflect community need, as well as, the expectations of accrediting bodies such as the Commission on Cancer (COC). The Director will oversee the team of Community Health Workers who will implement day-to-day outreach. Per guidelines from the National Cancer Institute, all outreach efforts must inform the Center’s translational research activities, including the development of a dynamic community-based cohort. Education: This position will design and coordinate the delivery of cancer education programming for patients and caregivers at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Such programming will likely include, though not be limited to, print and online materials, as well as live events, including lectures and conferences. They will also be responsible for collaborating with the School of Communication and other health behavior specialists to develop complementary materials for Sylvester’s Catchment area. Such materials will need to reflect the linguistic, cultural, and educational diversity throughout South Florida. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: + Experience with and proven ability in research practices + Excellent organizational skills to manage large volume priorities + Ability to prioritize and work under the pressure of deadlines + Ability to work independently and to accept responsibility for complex and sensitive decision making as it relates to the overall conduct of the organization + High degree of analytic ability to manage financial responsibilities + Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with personnel, members of other university communities. + Comprehensive computer skills Education: + Bachelor’s degree in business or related field; master’s degree preferred in health or education or related field. Work Experience: + This position requires at least 5 years of experience implementing and managing cancer outreach and education for patients, caregivers, and the public at large.
