Director, Revenue Accounting and OTC (Order-to-Cash)

Position Summary

Reporting to the VP, Controller, the Director, Revenue Accounting and OTC (Order-to-Cash) will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of revenue recognition including order management, revenue accounting, billing and collections and revenue and accounts receivable related reporting. This role requires a deep understanding of SaaS revenue recognition models and has a strong ability to lead cross-functional teams in a dynamic startup environment.  The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker and proactive communicator with exceptional analytical skills and a passion for driving operational excellence. The candidate will also possess strong management and team leadership competencies gained through prior experience leading a revenue team, including through process transformations. This will be a critical role in ensuring we continue building a world-class function while working cross-functionally to ensure our systems and processes are running smoothly.


What You Will Do

Revenue Recognition: Ensure compliance with ASC 606, ASC 310, ASC 326, ASC 340-10-40  and other relevant accounting standards, overseeing the timely and accurate recognition of revenue from subscription and service contracts, including accounting for costs to obtain a contract, accounts receivable and any related expected credit losses.  Maintain revenue recognition, booking policy, and other related policies and related accounting memos. Oversee, interpret, provide feedback and sign contracts and related order forms that align with company policies and goals including Booking policy.

Order to Cash Management: Optimize the end-to-end order to cash process, including order entry, billing, collections, and cash application to enhance cash flow and minimize DSO, identifying opportunities for automation and analysis to streamline operations.

Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process automation and efficiency improvements within the OTC cycle, implementing best practices to enhance operational performance.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with sales, finance, legal and product teams to develop pricing strategies, contractual terms, and effective billing practices that align with company goals. Proactively identify opportunities through direct partnership with sales and other cross functional leaders to identify pain points that can be solved via communication, training, automation or policy with a “win as a team” mindset.

Close and Financial Reporting: Manage the execution of global revenue, accounts receivable and related accounts including the month-end close process, board reporting and financial disclosures. Prepare and present accurate financial reports related to revenue and cash flow, providing insights to senior management and stakeholders to inform strategic decisions.

Audit and Compliance: Manage internal and external audits related to revenue accounting and ensure adherence to internal controls and regulatory requirements.

Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of 5 accounting professionals, fostering a collaborative culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Develop and execute the revenue accounting and OTC function's vision, strategy, and mission, aligned with the company's strategic objectives. Act as an advocate for the OTC function highlighting the impact of potential pricing and product decisions and leading the team through change based on decisions that are made.

Minimum Qualifications  

10+ years of experience in the accounting field with a combination of public accounting, late-stage technology start-ups and/or public companies, with 3+ years acting in a managerial capacity

In-depth knowledge of ASC 606 and related revenue accounting standards, with a particular emphasis on SaaS related issues

Excellent communicator, both written and verbal, able to communicate complex concepts and risk factors to stakeholders and influence decision making

Demonstrated stakeholder management skills with the ability to effectively influence and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business process transformation and change management. 

Ability to motivate, mentor, and develop a virtual team

Must be based remotely in the United States. HackerOne is a digital-first company. This model offers our employees flexibility in time and location. All employees must be able to work and excel in a remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated success in leading revenue accounting functions through rapid growth and expanding product offerings, with a proven ability to develop and execute effective strategies

CPA, or equivalent

Experience at a Big 4

Experience with WorkDay
