**_Purpose_**
Leads and oversees the Portfolio Management unit for commercial banking within the International Business segment ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Monitor and manage an assigned industry, segment, or sub-segment’s trends and insights by promptly and proactively communicating potential alerts and credit issues to stakeholders, ensuring timely intervention and proactivity. Ensure we have proper controls and monitoring across our teams and portfolio and identify gaps in said controls and monitoring. Importance of the role as the first line of defense, leading a strong risk culture, and effectively monitoring unusual activity of their assigned portfolio.
**_What You’ll Do:_**
**Portfolio Monitoring and Risk Management:**
+ Proactively review portfolio through industries, segments, and sub-segments, etc. to determine trends and insights that allow to identify risks and commercial opportunities. Provide feedback on quality of data as well as data-improvement roadmap to facilitate deeper analysis
+ Lead the development, modernization and maintenance of portfolio management processes, tools, and methodologies.
+ Improve existing reports and queries, setting standards for effective information presentation with a risk analysis perspective
+ Collaborate with the Analytics Teams to develop and maintain dashboards for transparency on key compliance metrics.
+ Review sample analysis of annual reviews as well as new deals, incorporating both financial and non-financial risks and identify opportunities for improvement
+ Monitor client portfolio trends and alert potential risks, exceptions or non-compliance (e.g. ARA, DPD, SOFIA) within Banking; communicate outcomes to stakeholders and oversee escalation processes to respective Team Leaders, ensuring proper documentation and follow-up
+ Track and report trends on overdrafts, overruns, and other exceptions, ensuring portfolio quality is maintained within approved limits
+ Ensure and support RM/CSM with industry insights in credit proposals, as well as follow up with any plans for offboarding of any industry, segment or sub-segments
+ Create periodic reports on industries, segments, and sub-segments and share trends and insights with wider team and partners, integrating 1) quality assurance findings from peer file reviews, and 2) Client Profitability Models
+ Lead quality assurance activities by conducting periodic reviews of commercial loan processes
**Early Warning and Risk Escalation:**
+ Identify early signs and trends of credit risk (e.g. delinquency, PCL impacts) and report to RMs/CSMs and Senior Management for timely intervention
+ Leverage the early warning tools like SOFIA to identify trends and insights
+ Report and alert annual reviews, term loan renewals, early warnings, and unusual transaction reports outstanding at the portfolio level
+ Organize and lead designated Banking governance meetings to ensure timely follow-up on alerts and facilitate effective risk management discussions
**Client Interaction Support:**
+ Occasionally accompany Relationship Managers on client visits to gain a deeper understanding of client business needs and support the risk assessment process, while tracking call reports and path-to-profitability commitments, identifying RWA optimization initiatives to ensure portfolio strategic alignment.
**Others:**
+ Centralize, manage and coordinate Banking audit issues, deploying action plans (regionally when applicable) and maintaining consolidated information to meet audit, risk and regulatory requirements while establishing proper control strategies with Banking and Risk Teams
+ Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
+ Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

**_What You'll Bring:_**
+ Excellent knowledge of Commercial Banking processes, products and services, including a working knowledge of the systems, routines and operating procedures
+ Superior credit skills and sound judgment as demonstrated through his/her previous track record and experience
+ Strong understanding of AML, Higher Risk Client and KYC requirements.
+ Demonstrated ability to generate and implement strategies, roadmaps and business cases
+ Superior risk assessment and analytical skills
+ Superior accounting and financial analysis skills
+ Strong coaching skills
+ Good understanding of commercial management systems
+ Superior communication skills (oral & written)
+ Superior industry knowledge
