Position Summary:
Kemper is a publicly traded, multi-billion-dollar insurance and financial services company, and we are seeking a talented and motivated accounting professional to join our SEC & Financial Reporting team at our headquarters in downtown Chicago. This is a fantastic role for a strong performer who is looking to greatly expand their knowledge within a multi-faceted insurance company (P&C, Life) that has exposure to financial reporting under SEC, GAAP, Statutory, and ERISA accounting frameworks. Kemper has a proven track record for developing its people for higher roles within the department as well as other functions and across its operating entities. We seek a detail-oriented professional to assist with a wide range of monthly, quarterly and annual accounting functions associated with Kemper’s financial reporting.
Position Responsibilities:
Lead the SEC financial reporting process including the timely and accurate filing of Forms 10-Q/K, 8-K and other SEC documentsSchedule and facilitate meetings with senior leadership to discuss business trends and draft management discussion and analysis in advance of quarterly reportingPreparation and facilitation of quarterly end-to-end reporting workflowManage external audit review comments on Forms 10-Q/K, 8-K and other SEC documentsResponsible for ongoing management of Workiva for use of financial reporting, including iXBRLCoordinate with Accounting Policy to ensure compliance with SEC disclosure requirements and accounting guidanceManage team of two accountantsPosition Qualifications:
7-10 years of experience in public accounting and/or SEC reporting for a large public companyBA/BS degree in Accounting or FinanceCPA requiredFamiliarity with US GAAP and SEC filing requirementsExperience navigating a large ERP environmentExperience in Workday Financial Management and Workiva a plusEffective writing skills and strong attention to detail requiredStrong analytical, organizational, and time management skillsProgressive thinking skills, a strong work ethic, and a knack for innovative solutionsExcellent communication skills to interact with varying levels of management and professional staffAbility to identify, analyze, and solve complex accounting issuesThe selected candidate will work a hybrid work schedule which will require weekly reporting to our Chicago, IL office.Kemper is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
