Director, Security Engineering - CloudSec, AppSec and AI Security

We are looking for an experienced Director of Security Engineering who will oversee and expand Cloud Security,  application security, SDLC security and  launch a new AI security function.  You will be responsible for overseeing and growing teams across the entire code-to-cloud pipeline, working closely with leaders in engineering, product, and compliance to drive security innovation and embed security best practices throughout the development lifecycle.

In this role, you will be a key decision maker in a forward-thinking organization that integrates Security and SRE into a unified structure.  

You will collaborate across Product, Engineering, Compliance, and IT teams to integrate security into every stage of the product development lifecycle. Your leadership will be key in making security a foundational aspect of our products, reinforcing our commitment to earning and maintaining customer trust.

What You’ll Do: 

Define, develop, and execute a forward-looking cloud security strategy aligned with Datadog’s engineering organization and emerging threats.  Attract, hire, and develop top security leadership talent, creating clear paths for growth and impact. Collaborate closely with engineering teams to design, implement, and operate secure systems that protect Datadog’s cloud environment and ensure the safety of customer data. Grow an already  developer-centric security program, embedding security into engineering artifacts, processes, and tooling for seamless integration. Drive complex, cross-functional security initiatives to systematically eliminate common risks and vulnerabilities, ensuring security is “engineered-in” at every stage. Establish and drive achievable security objectives, aligning security efforts with broader company goals and growth. Develop and own roadmaps,  track metrics and KPIs to measure the team’s effectiveness.   Build out new functions within the organization focusing on AI Security and manage embeds throughout the organization.  Collaborate with Program Managers and Product Managers to lead dogfooding initiatives, advocating for Datadog to be customer 0 and state-of-the-art in leveraging innovative solutions driven from a SRE and Security perspective. Represent security initiatives in executive discussions and cross-functional planning sessions, ensuring this organization is a business enabler.

Who You Are: 

You’ve been responsible for building and/or rolling out cloud security, product security and application security  teams and solutions You have a proven track record of building and scaling security organizations as a Director or higher in high-growth, where you fostered a strong security culture and led teams through rapid change. You've been able to advocate strong security practices by achieving consensus, gaining accountability where ownership is unclear.  You have a  demonstrated ability to communicate complex security concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, with outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills that inspire collaboration and drive alignment across teams. You’ve developed senior engineering leaders and teams who provided critical services for the engineering department.  You've developed and hired talent in a group, growing senior leaders (both managers and ICs)

The reasonably estimated yearly salary for this role at Datadog is:$272,000—$340,000 USD
