Director, Specialty Compliance

Position: Director, Specialty Compliance
 

Position Overview
The Compliance Director is responsible for providing leadership to the Specialty Compliance department ensuring Licensing, Contracting and Surplus Lines tax fillings are complying with regulatory requirements. This will be a key role with a deep understanding of surplus lines acting as a subject matter expert to improve and optimize business process.

Position Responsibilities:
• Manage the Surplus Lines filings and tax payment function ensuring transactions are completed on time and in accordance with state guidelines.
• Manage the licensing, appointment and carrier contracting functions ensuring transactions are processed based on guidelines.
• Collaborate with all levels of staff and third-party vendors to adopt and implement standardized best practices and streamline processes.
• Drive operations excellence by identifying opportunities to improve and optimize organization compliance activities.
• Develop and manage the compliance automation roadmap to implement a scalable process to support future growth.
• Develop tracking tools to report field compliance gaps requiring rework, penalties, and corrections.
• Develop training curriculum to improve compliance knowledge and practices for internal brokers, account managers and external partners.
• Manage compliance workflows for accuracy of documentation, filing, and timely payments.
• Conduct regular meetings with compliance associates, field and third-party vendors reviewing filings performance, penalties, and regulatory changes.
• Mentor staff, providing employee training and necessary tools needed to perform duties along with staff performance management.
• Monitors and stays current on changes to compliance regulations.
• Coordinate regulatory audits and assists auditors, as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ten (10) years or more of managerial experience in the insurance industry
• Seven (7) or more year of experience with Surplus Lines preferred.
• Excellent problem solving, prioritization and time management skills.
• Strong leadership and management skills
• Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills
• Ability to motivate employees and drive results.
• Ability to build partnerships at all levels and to coordinate the activities of cross-functional groups.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

Disclosure required under applicable state or municipality regulations: The expected salary range for this position is $120,000 to $150,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level.
