Director, Strategic Finance Physicians

The Director, Strategic Finance Physicians is responsible for the financial analysis of strategic and operational imperatives for Memorial Medical Group (MMG) and Decatur Medical Group (DMG).  Reviews monthly financial statements to ensure accuracy.  Responsible for the overall financial health and stewardship of the health system’s physician practices.  Embraces opportunities for system integration, standardization, and optimization.

Develop and enhance relationships with internal and external stakeholders including but not limited to, SIU Medicine and Springfield Clinic. Responsible for providing financial analyses, feasibility studies and financial forecasts in accordance with requested time frames. In collaboration with the System Controller and Vice President Revenue Cycle, ensure material accuracy of the general ledger, financial statements, reimbursement, and billing system. Ensure the timely filing of all State and Federal regulatory reports, including 990 tax returns. Manage the annual budget development and five year plan process in accordance with overall MH guidelines for all assigned areas of responsibility. Attend assigned Board meetings and present financial reports, budgets, and other requested financial information. Review and validate all financial and statistical reports that are submitted to the Board of Directors or management. Meet with senior management to discuss financial reports, key indicators and budget variances. Assist with the development of action plans as appropriate. Meet with department managers on an “as-needed” basis, for the same purposes. Facilitate and maintain close relationships with Operations. In collaboration with MMG/DMG leadership, develop, execute, and provide oversight of multiple provider (physician and advanced practice provider (APP)) compensation models for 250+ multi-specialty providers including six Urgent Care locations. In collaboration with MMG/DMG leadership, develop, execute and provide oversight of multiple provider (physician and APP) incentive programs for 250+ multi-specialty providers including six Urgent Care locations. Provide oversight and financial analyses for physician recruitment in regards to physician and APP employment agreements in conjunction with MMG/DMG leadership and MH Compliance & Internal Audit. In addition, assist with physician recruitment by preparing and presenting financial information to potential MMG/DMG physicians. Provide financial analyses and support to providers and MMG/DMG leadership, including but not limited to compensation, E & M coding and Productivity. Performs monthly review of physician compensation and benefits. Review the analysis of accrued PSA compensation and benefits payable during the close process, and provide adjusting entries (along with supporting documentation), as needed. Attend the MMG Physician Compensation Committee and prepare and present financial information as requested. Meet with Physicians routinely and review with them their Compensation and Benefits. Attend and present as requested at bi-monthly or quarterly physician site meetings. Coordinate departmental activities with administration and Clinics to ensure that all informational needs are met. Maintain departmental records in accordance with corporate record/retention guidelines. Maintain a current departmental policies and procedures manual as well as provide input to the Senior VP & CFO regarding overall policies and procedures for assigned entities. Responsible for annual updates to Finance Division policies and procedures. Consult with and advise staff concerning functions and activities, work assignments, workflow, deadlines, policies, procedures, problems, grievances and inter/intra-departmental relations. Select, train, orient, assign and supervise departmental staff. Maintain a close and open working relationship with the Human Resources, Central Business Office, Purchasing and General Accounting Departments to ensure accurate and timely information is being received to facilitate the processing and reporting of all financial data. Maintains similar relationships with operations staff/personnel of affiliated organizations. Ensure departmental compliance with the Code of Conduct and corporate compliance plan. Participate in community outreach and networking programs. Participates in local civic organizations and community services, including roles on community, state, and/or national boards of directors whose purpose may be in concert with, or benefit to, MH. Perform other related work as required or requested.

Required Experience

Education:

Bachelor of Science in Accounting required. Masters of Science in Accounting or related field preferred.

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (FHFMA) preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of seven (7) years relevant accounting experience, with at least five (5) years’ management or supervisory experience required. Experience must demonstrate an adequate knowledge of hospital policies, procedures and overall operations as well as physician practice/compensation setting.    Springfield, IL
