About the Department
The Community Impact Department encompasses our Youth Programs, Community Programs and Youth Events. NYRR is one of the largest non-profit providers of youth and community fitness programming in New York City (with a growing national/international footprint).
The Youth Program team develops, administers, and supports an evolving portfolio of youth running programs and resources used by schools, community centers, and families throughout New York City and nationwide. NYRR's flagship youth program, Rising New York Road Runners, brings the benefits of physical activity to various sites to help children develop the ability, confidence, and desire to be physically active for life.
The Community Program team develops, administers, and supports a comprehensive portfolio of programs including our renowned NYRR Striders walking/fitness program for older adults, our NYRR Open Run platform that provides free running and walking racing, and community-building opportunities in parks across the city, and bespoke programs such as NYRR Run for the Future and Youth Ambassadors that provide deep engagement and lifelong skills such as running techniques and public speaking.
The Youth Events team oversees the development and execution of over 35 Rising NYRR events per year, including events associated with our Five-Borough Series and the TCS New York City Marathon, each serving 100-1000 or more participants, and the support of other youth and community-based efforts.
About the Position
This position will report to the Head of Community Programs with the core responsibility of managing and supporting daily operations of NYRR Striders including managing logistical needs for daily fitness and walking sessions, growing participation at our active locations, conducting outreach to community organizations, and managing data for internal and external reports. This role also requires cross-departmental alignment with our marketing, communication, technology, and events departments.
Job Responsibilities (primary and secondary duties):
+ Under the Head of supervision, oversee the implementation of the program curriculum, using data to inform structure and delivery.
+ Oversee the recruitment and retention of Striders taking part in the 20 active locations throughout the five boroughs.
+ Manage and visit the 20 Striders sites and explore the opening of potential future sites in New York City five boroughs.
+ Establish and oversee programming execution across all Striders sites, including NYRR races.
+ Work with the Outreach Team to attend community and local events in NYRR Striders neighborhoods to promote the program.
+ Liaison with city agencies and partners to coordinate daily program operations within senior and community centers.
+ Build and implement year-round timelines, workflows, training, and process documents to formalize the operations of the program.
+ Compile and evaluate program/service participation data and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
+ Implement efficient and effective solutions for program implementation, providing support to program stakeholders, as needed.
+ Oversee the distribution of program incentives, inventory, supplies, and resources.
+ Manage and ensure alignment of external communications strategies to participants across social and email channels.
+ Manage all systems and workflows, ensuring operational efficiencies, both internal and external
+ Work closely with the NYRR Marketing Team to develop a comprehensive year-long marketing strategy designed to grow participation and share community stories through program and org-wide channels.
+ Work with the Community Outreach team to identify community leaders and other stakeholders that will help build the NYRR Striders community and participation.
+ Oversee the collaboration with Merchandise and Warehouse on incentive ordering, distribution, and fulfillment.
+ Support annual program budget development, re-projections and monitor all expenses and orders.
+ Availability to work weekends and early mornings when needed
+ Required to work all Five-Borough Series events and the NYRR Marathon in support of the organization
Supervisory Duties and Responsibilities
+ Directly manage 1 full-time Lead and oversee the management of part-time Striders Coaches in program implementation and operations.
+ Effectively manage employee performance through communication of expectations and standards.
+ Prepare performance appraisals. Work with next level management (senior leaders as applicable) when employee performance does not meet standards.
+ Provide effective feedback and coaching to employees, including potential areas of improvement.
+ Create goals for the team and individual employees, aligned with the organization’s strategy.
+ Encourage an environment of transparency, support, development, and growth.
+ Delegate and distribute tasks and responsibilities appropriately.
+ Ensure employees and staff adhere to company policies and procedures.
+ Make decisions based on the best interest of the organization.
+ Track employee attendance and sign off on their Kronos timecards, as applicable.
+ Collaborate with Human Resources, as support.
+ Promote team culture that coincides with NYRR mission and core values.
Job Requirements:
Experience:
+ 5-7 years of community development or engagement experience
+ 5-7 years of direct management of projects and staff budgets
+ People and program management experience required
+ Knowledge of NYC and Outer Boroughs strongly preferred
+ Experience with older adult programming preferred
+ Experience in physical fitness programs preferred
+ Event planning and social media skills are preferred
+ Experience with Salesforce and Mailchimp preferred
Education & Certifications:
+ Undergraduate degree preferred.
+ CPR/First Aid/AED Certification required or willingness to obtain
+ Center for SafeSport Certification required or willingness to obtain
Skills and Attributes:
+ Ability to travel to all current and potential sites throughout NYC
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams. Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
+ Strong attention to detail
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
+ Comfortable working with diverse groups of people
+ Works well under pressure and tight deadlines and demonstrate problem solving skills
+ Initiative to identify and offer suggestions for improvements or enhancements
+ Must have strong leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
Other Requirements:
+ Willing to work weekends at Striders events as needed, in addition to key NYRR events/races
+ All staff are required to work the NYC United Airlines Half Marathon, RBC Brooklyn Half Marathon, and the TCS NYC Marathon.
Salary: 93K
