The Director will oversee the design and implementation of engaging programs and activities promoting student life, building leadership capacity, and supporting student success and a vibrant, inclusive student body. The Director plays an integral role in the academic and professional development of students’ assets through various high-impact experiences. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in student personnel or a related field and 5 years of relevant experience OR Bachelor’s degree in student personnel or a related field and 7 years of relevant experience Professional experience must be related to student activities, higher education administration relating to students, and/or related fields. Relevant experience in leadership training and development, student activities programming, and major event coordination. At least 2 years of supervisory experience. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills. Experience advising student organizations/groups and or Greek Organizations. Excellent leadership, organization, interpersonal, and oral/written/presentation skills. Demonstrated ability and willingness to work evening and weekend hours. Preferred Qualifications Experience advising and/or working closely with fraternity/sorority life. Experience in student risk management. Experience using the Engage platform. Experience in educational programs directed at student development in higher education. Experience facilitating leadership programs. Experience in the assessment of educational outcomes. Experience working with, and creating numerous operating budgets for the office and individual programs. Demonstrated knowledge of the latest computing and technology for the student affairs area including web-based applications and/or desktop publishing. Essential Functions and percent of time: 1. Strategy and Vision 40% Lead long- and short-term strategic visioning and planning for the department, advocate for departmental needs and resources to support student engagement. Provide oversight, plan, direct and execute major large-scale student and campus-wide events and special projects (i.e. homecoming, parents/family weekend, etc.) with opportunities to engage in campus life. Ensure that all Student Engagement programs and functions are organized, appropriately staffed, reflect positively on the University and its administration, and are marketed enthusiastically. Provide strategic support and direction to 200+ student-led organizations/clubs to help facilitate an engaged student body as well as the increase in the number of organizations on campus to ensure a diversity of options available to all students. Develop, implement, and conduct comprehensive department assessments that include evidence of student learning, level of engagement in student life/campus life activities and high-impact practices and student satisfaction. Research and recommend new and interesting Student Engagement opportunities, including, but not limited to, service and community involvement. Establish a Leadership Development program, organized to promote academic, social, ethical, and cultural development, as well as skills development.

2. Leadership 30% Responsible for ensuring a positive work environment that mentors, develops, and manages direct reports in a way that facilitates their career development and provides direct and timely feedback on their work performance. Supervise a team of professional and student staff. Provide fiscal management of Student Involvement and Leadership and appropriate programmatic budgets and provides oversight of the Student Organization Budget Committee (SOBC) budget allocation process. Recruit, train, develop, and manage all levels of staff in Student Involvement and Leadership staff. Ensure the department provides annual training on policies, standards, and guidelines through annual training for all student organization leaders and advisors to ensure compliance with Board of Trustees policies. Create, modify, and provide guidance on applicable policies, procedures, and practices that pertain to student activities and events, risk management, and student organizations.
Essential Functions and percent of time (cont'd): Collaboration 25% Collaborate with students, administrators, faculty, and staff to promote an inclusive and engaging learning environment outside the classroom through student-centered, collaborative programming. Actively partner with Admissions at Open House events, on Admitted Student Days and with various campus tours and visiting student groups. Collaborate with Conduct Services regarding conduct cases and sanctioning of student organizations. Provide oversight for tracking engagement of students participating in activities or initiatives across campus including participation in student organizations, Fraternity and Sorority Life, community service, and leadership programs. Co-advise the University Programming Board (UAB). Develop and continually steward relationships that deeply engage critical campus partners such as: Title IX Officer, Residence Life, Student Health Services, Campus Safety, Diversity & Inclusion, partners from Clubs & Organizations, and other stakeholders.
