Director, Taste Ops EHS Compliance and Sustainability

Job Summary

IFF is currently seeking an experienced Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Director to join our Taste Operations team.

The EHS Director will be responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations, overseeing incident support, driving continuous improvement, participating in capital projects, and developing talent. The role involves managing environmental permits, conducting root cause analysis for incidents, leading ergonomic assessments, and standardizing EHS programs across sites. The EHS Director will also provide training and mentoring for local EHS professionals and work with site leaders to develop sustainability metrics.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance

Ensure site compliance with federal, state and local environmental, health and safety regulations.Identify compliance gaps and work with local teams and corporate EHS to rectify.Ensure clear understanding and proper implementation of new or modified safety programsEnsure all environmental permits are understood and all permit requirements are being met and properlymanaged.Oversee ESG reporting and work with sites to achieve ISO14001 certification.Liaison with Global Industrial Hygiene team to oversee all IH testing at the sites and lead efforts whereopportunities for improvement are identified.Provide support and guidance for regulatory audits and communications.Ensure comprehensive MOC program / protocol is in place and strictly adhered to at each site.

Incident Support

Provide oversight and assistance with all PSIF incidents. Travel to and work with local team to docomprehensive root cause analysis.Ensure corrective / preventative action is comprehensive, adequate, sustainable and implemented acrossall sites with similar risk/ hazards.Work with EHS, HR and Site Leadership to properly manage worker’s compensation cases.Ensure all regulatory reporting related to incidents is accurate and consistent across sites.
 

Continuous Improvement

Analysis of safety incidents and safety observations to determine initiatives needed to drive improvement.Develop cross functional action plans to address trends /systemic issues.Lead ergonomic assessments and work with sites to design industrial workplaces to optimize human well-beingand system performance.Work with Site Leaders to develop ESG metrics, create local sustainability teams andoversee sustainability projects / teams.Standardize how EHS programs, training, communication, etc are managed across all sites.

Capital Projects

Participate on Capital Project Teams to ensure employee health and safety is considered during planning phasesImplement PSSR (pre-safety start-up review) for all capital equipment installations and/ or significantmodifications.Ensure operating procedures and JHAs are complete and adequate, and employees are trained before equipment is handed over to operations.Work with site leaders, local EHS, engineering teams to build 5-10 year capital plan specific to EHS topics.

Talent Development

Provide Training for Local EHS Professionals.Mentor local EHS professionals and support their development objectives. Ensure best practices are being shared across all sites.Provide quarterly EHS related training to plant leadership (site leader down to floor leads).

Safety Culture

Work with VP of Ops to create energy and momentum about becoming best in class in safety.Conduct Safety round table sessions each month with VP of Ops and hourly teams to gauge safety culture and get ideas for continuous improvement. Create metrics and monitor adherence to leading indicators impacting safety culture.Liaison with corporate EHS to drive overall EHS improvement at the local level.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree is required in a technical field, preferably Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS), andextensive experience with certificate programs, seminars, and CEUs.Overall 15+ years of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) experience.Technical certifications, i.e. ISO 14001, CSP, PE, are a plus but not required.Must have a solid working knowledge of EHS regulations and interpretation.In-depth experience in a manufacturing/production environment.In-depth experience in managing and implementing safety programs.In-depth experience in managing and implementing environmental management programs.Must be able to travel globally and work independently and remotely as necessary.Travel requirement - 30% travel required.
