What You’ll Be Doing
The Director, Technology Architecture is responsible for promoting Business and IT alignment objectives by setting direction for the creation, definition and maintenance of cross-functional views of the enterprise in order to create the IT strategic plan and to influence investment decisions. In this role, you will be working with LOBs to understand the business imperatives, business functions, applications and technology landscape. This role will also be responsible to manage all architecture aspects of a functional domain, including providing technical vision and strategy to realize the business outcome.
At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role you’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.
How You’ll Succeed
Relationship building - Bridge the gap between stakeholders in CIBC, from C-level to application developers level. Communicate technical concepts in clear and established terms using appropriate channels, off-line and on-line collaboration methodologies.
Technical Vision - Identify and evaluate alternative solution options and trade-offs to handle both functional and non-functional requirements. Recommend designs that consider current applications and architecture, operating models as well target end state architecture.
Lead governance forums - as required to create harmony, ensure that extensions including defined architecture standards or patterns are reviewed frequently and is in line with every evolving business and technology landscape.
Ensure that the collaborative nature of capabilities such as design and engineering is coupled with tight governance around non-negotiables like security, availability, and performance.
Decision Making and Critical Thinking - Knowledge of tools and techniques for effective use of a broad range of factors, assumptions, frameworks and perspectives when solving problems.
Written Communications - Ability to produce a variety of business documents that demonstrate command of language, clarity of thought and orderliness of presentation.
Oral Communications - Ability to express oneself and communicate with others verbally; recognizing that verbal communication is more than just language - it includes tone, style and structure.
Who You Are
You can demonstrate experience in: 5 years + End-to-end architecture with strong knowledge of enterprise Java stack, front-end technologies, mobile applications (android and IOS), middleware, databases (SQL & NoSQL), Data Lake, RESTful APIs, streaming technologies, DevOps, and Agile methodologies/tools. Ideally, you are well versed at identifying the need for and ensuring the development of key architecture processes to meet the needs of the business. You keep abreast of the external environment - IT best practices and regulatory guidelines – in order to provide stewardship, advise company executives on appropriate actions/plans and recommend the introduction of new systems to support the changing business environment. We’re looking for someone able to self-drive to discover in order to define and develop solutions to problem-solving. It’s preferred if you have: Previous experience supporting a Financial Services client. Familiarity with microservice, API, Cloud and headless design concepts and frameworks.
