As part of the Global Services Group (GSG), the Global Supply Management (GSM) organization works with American Express business partners to identify the right third parties to support their strategic business objectives, negotiate supplier contracts and protect the company from third-party risk. GSM’s vision is to offer outstanding procurement, third-party risk management, and partner payment services to American Express colleagues.
The Director of Third-Party Risk Strategy within GSM works to define requirements and standards applicable to the use of external third parties in adherence to the company’s third-party management policy. This responsibility includes managing the third-party risk assessment methodology and associated model documentation. The role is also responsible for reviewing and assessing global regulations that impact third-party risk management at American Express (AXP), monitoring external risk trends, and determining the appropriate risk treatment for various types of third-party services and contracting commodities.
This position engages with a diverse and large set of stakeholders across the company, including independent risk management, internal audit, and Risk SMEs to drive continuous improvement of the Third-Party Risk Management Program (TPRM) program. Additional stakeholders include operational teams within GSM and AXP Business Units that own third-party relationships in scope for the program.
**Key Responsibilities of This Role Include:**
+ Liaison with Risk SMEs to define standards for effective risk management across the third-party lifecycle including risk assessment questions, risk scoring logic, due diligence requirements, and ongoing monitoring expectations.
+ Maintain internal standards for first-line third-party risk management.
+ Evaluate changes to the global regulatory landscape which affect third-party risk and assess potential impacts to the TPRM program.
+ Identify emerging risks and define necessary TPRM program changes to address them.
+ Review effectiveness of risk management processes and capabilities.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
+ Previous experience in a risk/control related field is required. E.g., Third-Party Risk Management, Operational Risk Management, Compliance, or Audit.
+ Strong Strategic Thinker: Ability to understand industry trends and TPRM best practices; anticipates emerging risks that have impact on the TPRM program.
+ Effective Influencer: Effectively manages a large and diverse set of internal and external stakeholders across AXP business units and the three lines of defense.
+ Bias Towards Action: Ability to steer program stakeholders and leaders to make informed and timely decisions and removes barriers to forward progress.
+ Clear Communicator: Comfortable communicating at multiple levels of the organization and influencing without direct authority.
+ Demonstrates Courage: Has a well-informed and credible opinion and speaks up to challenge the status quo.
+ Proven people leader: Consistent track record of people leadership, both in building high performing teams, as well as creating followership. Experience leading across global markets and time zones is a plus.

+ Bachelors Degree strongly Preferred
+ Masters Degree in a related field is a plus

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
