Position Summary\:Reporting to the Executive Director of Digital Strategy, the Director of Web Strategy and Development is part of the Digital Strategy & Marketing Technology team within the division of Strategic Marketing and Communications (SMC). This position is the lead architect and developer of Temple’s Drupal web development environment. The director leads an innovative web development team that defines and maintains functionality requirements for all high-level, university-wide web initiatives. They also lead the collaboration with Temple’s Information Technology Services (ITS) team and Temple’s Drupal web community. The director drives innovation by staying current withweb development trends and best practices and the evolving needs of higher education. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience* Bachelor’s degree in web development/design, digital media, marketing communications or related field.* At least 4 years of directly related experience. * An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Preferred* Master’s degree.* 5 years related experience in managing small-to-medium sized web team.* 5 years’ experience overseeing/building scalable, consumer facing, enterprise-class web applications* * 3 years’ experience developing within a CMS(Drupal preferred).* 3 years’ experience leveraging REST/SOAP services, APIs, XML/JSON/YAML.* 3 years’ experience writing HTML5, CSS, Javascript/jQuery, AJAX, PHP/MySQL.Required Skills and Abilities * Depth and breadth of knowledge across multiple software disciplines\: UX/UI, frontend/backend development, web services, APIs, content management systems, project management, versioning control.* Advanced understanding of ADA requirements for web accessibility, usability concepts, information architecture, browser/platform-specific functionality, and security issues.* Expert-level proficiency with the latest version of Drupal, or another open-source CMS, with a proven ability to develop custom modules/plugins that extend the CMS’ core or contributed functionality.* Proficiency in front-end developer tools/frameworks and leveraging modern technologies for local development (Sass/LESS, Compass, Guard/Grunt/Gulp).* Proficiency with versioning control and code management software.* Proficiency in responsive design and developing for mobile platforms.* Good sense of high-quality user experience as it relates to web design.* Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products.* Proven leader and collaborator who works to unify teams across functions.* Ability to work occasional nights & weekends as needed for troubleshooting purposes, working with oversees campuses and/or scheduled development updates.* Ability to incorporate institutional priorities, divisional strategy and business imperatives into decision-making and work.* Ability to translate UX/UI discoveries into functional and visual design of both static and data-driven web pages.* Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with the ability to work and collaborate with colleagues and campus partners.* Strong attention to detail and ability to utilize data and insights to determine decisions.* Ability to attend staff events as needed (including occasional nights and weekends).* Ability to work well under pressure.* Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy of work.
