Job Description Summary:

Draper’s Secured and Assured Systems (S&AS) business area develops secure microelectronics for the most challenging national security applications requiring advanced security, extreme reliability, and peak performance in harsh and hostile environments for military and intelligence systems. We are seeking an entrepreneurial Business Area Lead responsible for the management of this business unit and to lead the pursuit and execution of new business delivering Anti-Tamper, Cyber-Secure microelectronic solutions as well as programs to increase the capability and resiliency of the US microelectronics industrial base.

In this role you will have the opportunity to:

• Manage a business unit which includes responsibility for the multi-year business development pipeline; oversight of program execution and opportunities within the portfolio through monthly Program Management Reviews, Quarterly Business Reviews and regular pipeline reviews; and long-term integrated business planning to identify resource needs (internal funding, people, capital equipment, lab space, etc.) and technology needs (whether IR&D or customer-funded S&T work) required to steadily grow the business area. The selected candidate will:
• Develop personal credibility with sponsor organizations and program staff, with a clear ability to organize, motivate, and lead teams in business capture and execution activities.
• Drive new business development that improves impact and growth of the S&AS business area across DoD Services (Air Force, Navy, Army, MDA, Space Force and SOCOM), OUSD branches, and DARPA. Identify, manage and capture business opportunities that meet the US government’s secure system needs and microelectronics industrial base needs and align with differentiating Draper S&AS technical capabilities.
• Lead and support the requisite business development efforts: opportunity shaping / capture, proposals, white papers, and Request for Information (RFI) responses along with creating work statements, schedules, budgets, and compelling technical approaches / content. Engage with S&AS partners and customers across the U.S. Government, Defense Industrial Base, commercial industry, and academia to inform strategy and grow the business pipeline.
• Manage a portfolio of Government or industrial partner programs, meeting technical, cost, and schedule objectives as well as successful delivery of technological solutions. Serve as the Draper program management interface to the customer program office for assigned programs and/or activities.
• Lead high-caliber engineering teams on development of mission-focused solutions with experience in Agile-based management methods as well as traditional waterfall-style methods.
• Provide oversight of technical teams and ensure that the teams are suitably resourced to execute effectively.
• Coordinate with internal support organizations to ensure that programs are fully compliant with Draper and government requirements.

Duties/Responsibilities:
• Supervises a team of program managers in the execution of the assigned portfolio to include mentorship and career development.
• Oversees the development of complex proposals of large scope and oversees the execution of all assigned programs.
• Develops a portfolio strategy to include development of the opportunity identification, competitive analysis, alignment of Draper’s capabilities, and engagement plans.
• Contributes to Draper Intellectual Property position or discriminating technology portfolio that transcends project contributions in one or more areas of technical discipline.
• Implements program management policies to ensure effective proposal development and project execution.
• Manages to budget and schedule while developing and implement work plans for portfolio execution.
• Reports results and issues to senior management and cross functional organizations.
• Efforts contribute to the success of a major business area.

Education:
Master’s degree or above in a relevant technical field of study, or MBA. Technical knowledge and skills gained through professional work experience.

Experience:
10+ years functional or program management experience. including 5 years experience in personnel management.

Preferred Qualifications:

12+ years of experience in program management and/or business growth and capture.Deep expertise in leading program execution of full lifecycle projects; identifying, capturing, and growing new business; and managing customer engagement.Experience growing business in the areas of R&D technology development, and/or integration of new technology into existing, fielded systems. Demonstrated track record of success in developing new programs via entrepreneurial pursuit of opportunities.Strong knowledge of the secure microelectronics ecosystem, current government initiatives, and the technologies underpinning these areas.Dynamic leadership skills; ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and adjust priorities as needed in order to meet deadlines.Program/project management in complex technical activities in USG/DoD programs, with direct experience in developing risk management plans, budgets, and schedules, and conducting customer program reviews.Ability to interact with and provide direction to multidisciplinary technical teams both internal and external to Draper.Excellent written and verbal communications, presentations skills, organizational and time management skills. Must be able to clearly and concisely present complicated information and relationships to executive leadership, peers, staff, customers, and stakeholders.Passion about Draper’s non-profit mission to make impact on the most challenging national security problems.Established relationships and/or organizational understanding of agencies within the DoD and industrial partner Anti-Tamper and Industrial Base Microelectronics communities.Experience working within the field of secure microelectronics for USG applications.Current / in-scope Top Secret/SCI
