Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit The North Carolina Academy for Stress, Trauma and Resilience (NCA-STAR) was initiated within the Department for Counseling and Educational Development (CED) in the School of Education and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. NCA-STAR serves as a trauma-informed and culturally responsive place where those who experience trauma and life crisis can find hope for healing and resilience within a safe, supportive, and professional environment. Position Summary CED is looking for a full-time director (herein called director) for NCA-STAR to assist the continued development of training, service and research initiatives that are/will be based in the community, schools, and on the UNC Greensboro campus. This position will continue working with the department and department chair to engage primarily in work that positively impacts trauma-informed approaches and practices, and improves mental health and behavioral interventions within K-12 school systems. This outreach may include workshops and trainings, developing future programming – both in person and video/asynchronous, as well as providing consultation within schools including but not limited to K-12 educators, K-12 students, K-12 school personnel, future school counselors, teachers, and school personnel, and school-based mental health providers. Additional work may include, but is not limited to assisting in networking and developing campus and community partners, leading and/or carrying out CED and NCA-STAR development initiatives, coordinating services between NCA-STAR, the Nicholas Vacc Counseling and Consulting Clinic within CED, faculty and staff within CED, and personnel within SOE; conducting evaluations and research related to the programming that NCA-STAR provides or creates; and assisting in grant writing related to future NCA-STAR activities that will fund both this position and future activities of NCA-STAR. Minimum Qualifications Requirements for candidates would be a minimum of Master’s level Degree in a Mental Health, or closely related field, with a focus on trauma informed pedagogy and practice. At least 3 years experience in counseling, mental health and or trauma related work. The candidate should have an established record of practice in mental health provision and/or trauma focused care. Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates Preferred Qualifications It is preferred that that established record of practice in mental health provision or trauma focused care includes both mental health service and/or educational training provision within various settings, and specifically in community mental health providers and K-12 schools. It is preferable for the candidate to have management experience, as well as experience working collaboratively in a team of multi-disciplinary professionals.

Percentage Of Time 25 Key Responsibility Networking and developing partnerships in surrounding communities and on UNCG campus and surrounding communities, and specifically within K-12 schools, engaging in outreach to local schools. Essential Tasks Expand community engagement efforts in the education and community mental health spaces by establishing relationships and collaborations with organizations, agencies, and individuals in the greater Greensboro community and the state of North Carolina to engage in public relations and further strengthen UNCG’s national reputation as a center of excellence in community engagement.  Also, establish working relationships and collaborations with individuals and offices on the UNCG campus Percentage Of Time 55 Key Responsibility Leading and carrying initiatives, developing programming, and implementing programming that will impact trauma-informed practices and approaches and overall mental health that is impacted by trauma. Essential Tasks Develop synchronous and asynchronous trainings, establish initiatives stemming from the strategic plan, identify connections between research-training-service, determine the collaborations with the Vacc to provide clinical services via NCA-STAR and CED.  The NCA-STAR Director will oversee the collaboration of NCA-STAR with the Vacc Counseling Clinic and the associated mobilization of supports and services.


Percentage Of Time 10 Key Responsibility Seeking external funding to support infrastructure, research activities, service provision, and trainings/outreach Essential Tasks Forge long-term partnerships through collaborative grant submissions with school districts and community organizations.  Work with SOE to identify potential grants relevant to NCA-STAR; develop collaborations in which NCA-STAR can be a consultant or trainer within the grant; pull in research partners to assist with the development and writing of grants.
