Purpose and Responsibilities

The Director of Software Delivery will lead day to day operations for a team of software engineers.  The role involves managing software development teams and working closely with other departments to ensure that software projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

This position reports to the Sr. Director or VP level and does have direct reports.

Critical Job Duties:

Leading software development teams: The Director of Software Delivery is responsible for managing software development teams, ensuring that team members are productive, engaged, and aligned with organizational goals. This involves setting objectives, providing feedback and coaching, and monitoring performance.

Defining and implementing software development processes: The Director of Software Delivery is responsible for defining and implementing software development processes that ensure high-quality, reliable software is delivered on time and within budget. This includes establishing project management methodologies, release management processes, and quality assurance procedures.

Managing software delivery projects: Own the product development lifecycle including development, automation, QA, CI, DevOps and production operations. Collaborating with other departments:

Collaborate with Management, Technology, Product, UX, SRE, Security and other internal teams to provide a stable, innovative, and valuable product, including remote and distributed teams

Staying up to date with industry trends: The Director of Software Delivery keeps up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies, identifying opportunities to improve software development processes and practices, and driving innovation within the organization.

Job Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be able to operate in a fast-paced environment, directing their teams to build code that is simple, understandable, clean, and solid. They will be able to foster and maintain strong relationships with their teams and see feedback or failure as motivation to continue learning and growing. Data-driven decision making is the norm for this person and crafting great software products speaks to them.

Basic Needs:

A background in computer science fundamentals: a bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or Engineering or have equivalent professional experience.

Extensive and progressive experience building and delivering scalable and resilient software products.

Several years of managing teams building scalable production software and managing software development teams

Demonstrated experience and mastery of relevant software design patterns, frameworks, and styles.

Experience with RESTful / GraphQL Web Service Design and Implementation; Event Driven Systems; Asynchronous Messaging and Service Oriented Architectures

Preferred Qualifications:

Total Exp. Range (18-20 years)

Must have managed team of at least 50-60

Must have managed Engineering or Technical Project Managers

Strong investigative and quantitative skills; ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and ideas

Strong attention to detail, planning, and organization

Passionate about fostering good engineering practices and processes

Experience building teams, motivating, and mentoring software engineers to improve their skills and efficiency.
