Director Anatomic Pathology Lab - Toledo North Campus - Full Time - Days

The Director is responsible for planning, organizing, leading, developing and coordinating the efficient operation of the assigned laboratories. Expectations include maintaining cost effective and efficient department operations, ensuring high levels of customer service and satisfaction, working with the medical directors and staff to develop, implement and maintain quality standards and improve performance.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. With input from Medical Directors and Administration establishes a vision for the assigned Laboratories within the context of the ProMedica Laboratories Strategic Plan and Mission. Participates in the development and leads the implementation of short and long-term strategic plans to achieve department goals and objectives, including employee and patient satisfaction, quality, and cost. Establishes a climate that promotes commitment and teamwork toward goals and objectives.
2. Fosters bi-directional communication with local hospital administration. Attends or ensures designated representative attends leadership meetings, serves on local committees, and actively participates in quality and operational improvement activities. Engages in active dialogue with local hospital administration and users of laboratory services regarding ProMedica Laboratories services and changes.
3. Reviews, evaluates, and improves procedures and services to ensure high quality patient care. Remains knowledgeable about current trends and developments in the Laboratory field.
4. Ensures effective interdepartmental communication, team building and staff development by using any, and all tools deemed appropriate and necessary including maintaining visibility and accessibility, providing on-going feedback on performance, ensuring an effective annual performance appraisal process, supporting continuing education. Is accountable for Employee satisfaction; ensures effective communication with staff via participation in staff meetings, daily huddles, rounding and meeting with individuals.
5. Administers the budget for the assigned Laboratories to meet departmental and organizational performance targets. Ensures efficient operation of departments and productive use of resources.
6. Directs recruitment, selection, supervision, discipline, and evaluation of associates within the area of control. Recruits, trains, manages, coaches, and develops subordinate managers and supervisors. Develops an effective leadership development plan for managers, supervisors, and staff.
7. Takes a systems approach, striving for standardization, to the delivery of services, ensuring that the operation of the assigned laboratories are consistent with the goals, objectives and needs of the organization and its various departments and customers.
8. Maintains accessibility to, and open communication with, the medical staff to ensure strong working relationships with physicians. Ensures positive physician, patient and customer relations are maintained by addressing questions, needs and concerns in a timely fashion and by acting as a liaison, when necessary, with the appropriate individuals and departments.
9. Ensures that the assigned laboratories remain in compliance with the standards and requirements of all pertinent regulatory and licensing agencies, including CAP, Joint Commission, DEA, CLIA/state department of health, etc.
10. Establishes and maintains local, regional, and national networks of professional contacts.
Education: Must have a Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science.
Skills: Must possess analytical, organizational, interpersonal, communication and leadership skills necessary to ensure the effective delivery of laboratory services. Must be able to understand directions, communicate and respond to inquiries; requires effective interpersonal skills. Must be able to input and retrieve information from computer.
Years of Experience: Requires a minimum of five (5) years clinical laboratory experience. Requires a minimum of three to five (3-5) years management experience.
Certification: Must be certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
