Overview This is a remote role that may only be hired in the following locations: AL, AR, CT, DE, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MS, MT, NC, NE, NM, NV, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, UT, VA, VT, WV This Leader will manage a team that supports the Risk Program execution requirements for the Strategy Organization. Programs include Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) Material Risk Identification, Controls Assurance, Issues Management, Regulatory & Policy Change Management, Business Unit Risk Reporting, Risk Measurement along with other Governance, Implementation, and Change Management activities. The position is a collaborative leadership role that will require communication and interaction with the Business Risk Advisory Team, the second line of defense, internal audit, regulators, and business partners. This position is a first line of defense professional responsible for the support and execution of various risk programs and activities within a Business Unit (BU), adhering to the Bank’s Risk Appetite and Corporate Strategy. Manages associates and/or teams that manage or support business risks and controls across all risk types. Facilitates and/or monitors execution of risk policies, standards, procedures and/or program requirements. Oversees the communication of risk-related information and serves as an effective communication channel between the Risk Management Department, regulators, and FCB BUs. Leads strategy discussions and provides input to promote risk awareness and ownership across the organization. Maintains collaborative partnerships with senior management across lines of business, internal departments, Risk Management program leaders, peer managers within first line of defense risk, and other stakeholders to enhance BU risk management capabilities. Manages the recruitment, training, and development process for staff. Responsibilities Risk Strategic Activities - Works with Business Risk & Controls leader and senior management to create risk management strategies ensuring key risks are appropriately managed and are aligned. Effectively challenges risk programs outputs, ensuring bank and regulatory alignment. Manages and recommends enhancements to internal controls, ensuring control testing is in place and results are in line with the Control Standards. Interprets business trends and drivers to identify and communicate underlying patterns, interdependencies and emerging opportunities and risks. Partners with cross-functional teams to assess the impact of external factors including regulatory changes, market disruptions or business operations and strategy. Risk Program Execution - Oversees the risk management framework and composition and regular maintenance of policies, standards and procedures that support risk program execution. Directs a book of work to identify gaps and assess capacity, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and prioritization of risk management initiatives. Leads the tracking and resolution of issues across the organization, ensuring timely escalation and remediation. Partners with other functions (i.e. Compliance, 2LOD) to ensure alignment with broader risk management and governance objectives. Participates in regulatory inquires, examinations, and audits in collaboration with internal stakeholders. Oversees regulatory submissions, response, and report requirements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely submission. Monitors regulatory developments and findings and assesses their potential impact on the organization’s risk profile and regulatory compliance. Risk Governance & Reporting - Designs and oversees the implementation of risk reporting frameworks, dashboards and metrics to provide senior management with timely and actionable insights into risk profile and risk management activities. Directs the production of regular risk reports and presentations that summarizes key risk indicators, risk trends, emerging risks, and risk mitigation efforts for financial and non-financial risk stripes. Oversees the effectiveness of risk reporting processes and tools, identifying areas of optimization. Leads governance (i.e. Forums) and communication routines with the BU team to ensure appropriate distribution of risk program related information. Managerial Functions - Makes appropriate changes to team processes, procedures and efficiencies to meet objectives. Manages the performance training and evaluation of staff. Maximizes department achievements by providing professional development. Participates in mandatory risk training and educates BU personnel on key risk programs and topics. Develops and manages short- and long-term staffing needs. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree 8 years experience in Financial Services, First Line Risk Management, Enterprise Risk or Operational Risk OR High School Diploma or GED 12 years experience in Financial Services, First Line Risk Management, Enterprise Risk or Operational Risk Additional Requirements: Experience working at a Large Financial Institution Leadership experience Knowledge of risk techniques, practices, and control frameworks Knowledge of various banking and government regulatory requirements and processes Knowledge of regulatory guidance pertaining to enterprise risk and operational risk Ability to work effectively with associates, senior management, and various committees Preferred: 1st or 2nd Line Risk Program experience Project Management or Internal/External Consulting experience Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Risk Management Licenses and Certifications: CRCM, PMP, CERP, CAMS; ISACA CISA, ISACA CRISC First Citizens benefits programs are designed to meet our associates where they are in life.
