Join Team Amex and let's lead the way together. **Director & Counsel – Travel & Lifestyle Services Strategic Partnerships and Transactions** The U.S. Consumer Services team of the General Counsel’s Organization (GCO) is seeking a Director & Counsel to support Travel & Lifestyle Services (TLS). Travel is one of American Express’ most important strategic assets and the TLS team is focused on strategic partnerships and new technology. This position will work closely with business clients, legal professionals in the GCO, as well as stakeholders across the enterprise, to negotiate major strategic agreements for TLS (including travel supplier deals, technology partnerships, and inventory distribution agreements) and provide day-to-day legal advice on a diverse array of issues related to such transactions. **Role & Responsibilities** + Participate as part of a team of seasoned attorneys serving as the primary business lawyers and strategic advisors to the American Express Travel & Lifestyle business + Provide legal advice and thought leadership to business clients responsible for American Express’ Global Air Strategy on a wide range of matters, including strategic negotiations, business development initiatives, partner issue and dispute resolution, and data strategy + Lead contract drafting and negotiations for a broad range of agreements, such as commercial contracts with travel technology providers (platforms, distribution systems), travel inventory suppliers (air, hotel, short term stays, car, tour), and other key partners + Serve as the primary escalation point for critical issues relating to Air and technology strategy, contract interpretation, partner/supplier relationships, and data rights + Collaborate with business clients and international colleagues on Air and technology legal matters globally and support the business in coordinating international legal advice and contract reviews + Build strong relationships with stakeholders including Compliance, Privacy, Control Management, Finance and Government Affairs to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations and mitigate legal, operational, regulatory and reputational risks + Partner with GCO colleagues to share knowledge and best practices and participate on GCO-wide projects + Potential to expand role to support the development, implementation and ongoing delivery of new travel benefits on consumer cards or other ad-hoc special projects or initiatives underpinning TLS broader strategy, including any related marketing, benefit operations and customer experience **Minimum Qualifications** + Bachelor’s degree and J.D. (or equivalent) + Admission to practice law in New York in good standing + 6 years of relevant work experience in a law firm and/or in-house **Preferred Qualifications** + Direct experience managing complex transactions in a regulated, deadline intensive environment + Proven ability to act as a trusted advisor and synthesize complex legal issues to business leaders + Passion for working towards creative, solution-oriented outcomes that effectively address legal requirements + Capacity to be agile and pivot appropriately when challenged with new information or evolving circumstances + Ability to gain credibility, manage expectations and generate buy-in through relationship building and communication + High-energy, team oriented, self-starter with strong written and interpersonal communication skills, executive presence, and ability to effectively interact at all levels within the organization + Strong passion for developing creative solutions to issues as they arise + Must work well in cross-functional team settings and have a keen eye for initiating and driving end to end process improvements to enhance efficiency and productivity **Qualifications** Salary Range: $170,000.00 to $255,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition.
