The Role:

The Director of Motors and Hard Goods Data Science will be responsible for setting the vision and strategy to create the thinking, systems, and processes to advance our business through Data Science and Analytics. This role will lead a team of analysts and data scientists to drive proactive insights and identify growth opportunities for our customers.

This leader will bring technical, analytical, and strategic strengths with a deep background in statistics, mathematics, and/or engineering. We are looking for a very customer-focused data science senior leader who can contribute and build breakthrough, outstanding analytical solutions to help solve sophisticated problems and drive key business decisions. Analytics at eBay is a multidisciplinary craft and it is foundational; it is a strategic arm that heavily influences critical decisions made by eBay leaders.

Responsibilities:

Scale the capabilities of the Data Science team to drive better business decisions for the Motors and Hard Goods (Refurb, Home & Garden) business and cross-functional initiatives.

Develop globally consistent analytical frameworks and metrics to better understand the customer and business impact of our product teams so that eBay can optimize investments and drive growth.

Apply data and behavioral science to solve customer problems.

Develop outstanding automated self-serve dashboard solutions.

Provide technical expertise in developing methods for measuring business performance and research the use of sophisticated mathematical, statistical, and experimental tools & techniques

Articulate requirements and coordinate with data infrastructure teams to increase availability of new internal and external tools and datasets in to unlock new insights.

Support training, development, recruiting, and inspiration in the decision science team.

Communicate and present regularly to eBay’s executives & leadership team.

Job requirements:

Confirmed analytics and data science leader that has built impactful analytical capabilities within a large global company

12+ years of experience analyzing large, sophisticated, multifaceted data sets in relational databases and non-relational databases using querying languages and analytics automation tools.

Strong technical and quantitative background with master’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science, Math, Physics, or Engineering.

Ability to collaborate with key partners in a highly matrixed environment including regional business teams, product, technology, and finance in order to plan and implement eBay’s analytics roadmap.

Highly analytical, strategic, and diligent, with a dedication to excellence and a passion for understanding the business implications of analyses.

Ability to influence and drive execution across organizational lines.

Experience with data and analytical tools including R and Python.

Knowledge of statistics (e.g., multivariate statistics, predictive modeling, controlled test design).

Excellent management, recruiting, mentor, team-building, and organizational skills.

Ability to identify and take on critical projects, as well as lead multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic, changing environment.

Willing to take calculated risks and make decisions with imperfect information.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California, Washington, or New York is expected in the range below.

$180,800 - $279,400

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
