Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)

Develops and implements policies, programs and practices to ensure that the organization complies with all federal, state and local laws, regulations and standards concerning the environment and health and safety of the workforce and surrounding community.  Responsible for planning and directing all engineering activities to diagnose and rectify environmental problems involving the organization, its employees, and the public. Responsible for devising Calpine’s Power Operations and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) continuous learning strategy, developing Calpine’s Power Operations technician qualification program, overseeing program implementation, and assessing outcomes that drive business performance results.

Manage Environmental Health and Safety function with an operational focus.

Manages activities of broad functional area through first level management and professionals, including full human resources, cost and budgetary accountability. The Director of EHS may also supplement other Power Operations and EHS program activities that enhance our strategy.

The ideal candidate has experience working in the energy sector/utilities/power plant operations, with strengths in instructional design based on adult learning theories, employee qualification program development, and proven ability to build strategic partnerships with subject matter experts to create technical programs, learning management system administrative experience, and strategic meetings/workshop facilitation experience.

 

Job Responsibilities

Partners closely with the business, technical subject matter experts, and the overall Power Operations leadership to ensure alignment of organizational objectives and strategic operation plans. Identifies, develops, and drives technical learning and progression development programs consistent with the organization’s strategic goals. Guides and manages strategic communication programs and updates. Designs and develops course strategies encompassing a broad range of learning methods (e.g., eLearning, instructor led, train-the-trainer, mentorship, field-based, self-study, etc.). Develops effective communication plans to support the rollout of technical learning initiatives and programs. Coordinates the administration of learning management programs to ensure quality, consistency and continuity. Seeks feedback, monitors and evaluates learning programs for organization effectiveness and continuing value. Creates initial and continuing technical learning/development opportunities for the career life cycle of Power Operations employees. Actively manages eLearning course libraries and can trouble shoot user LMS technical issues

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent Engineering or Science, Prefer a master’s degree. Previous Manager Experience. Min 10 years’ experience working in corporate/operations employee learning/development roles. Samples of program design and development of curriculum materials for fit-for-purpose learning solutions. Demonstrated ability to build productive strategic partnerships to achieve successful results with business, SMEs, and leadership, and across multiple business functions. Demonstrated ability in communication, organization, problem solving, and program management. Demonstrated technical ability and experience using, eLearning authoring software, MS Office, Adobe Creative Cloud applications, and program management software. Keeps up with developments in areas of expertise through self-directed study and involvement in professional societies.
