Job Summary

The Director, Emergency Management is responsible for overseeing, directing, managing, and implementing all aspects of a fully functional Emergency Management (EM) Program for Air Methods under the general direction of the Sr Director, Internal Evaluation Program and Emergency Management. Engages in professional administration and management duties relating to the EM Program, including disaster preparedness, prevention, mitigation, response, and recovery processes and actions. Ensures that policies, procedures, and programs are planned and implemented in accordance with Safety directives and regulatory requirements. Ability to respond to emergencies after hours, on weekends, and holidays. This position will support and collaborate with the Senior Vice President of Safety, Field Operations Leadership, and other AM LLC functional areas to increase operational and emergency response efficiency and effectiveness, safety practices, and supporting the overall development/execution of partner Mass Transportation Agreement Response Capability.

Additionally, this role will be responsible for maintaining and developing relationships with partner agencies and leadership. Organizations such as, but not limited to, partner healthcare systems, Federal/State/Local partners, etc.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following. 

Demonstrate a proactive, self-starter attitude with a strong enterprising spirit, consistently seeking opportunities for innovation and improvementDevelop and maintain the Emergency Programs for Air Methods along with all the associated documentation (including, but not limited to, the corporate ERP and EOC SOP)Assist with the creation of other policies and proceduresFacilitate and manage the corporate ERP CommitteeDevelop, execute, and maintain Emergency Training and Exercise ProgramsMaintain and develop operational guidance for the corporate Emergency Operations Center (EOC).  Lead the corporate EOC when appropriate.Act as a trusted advisor to AM LLC Leadership as needed. Additionally, coordinate, problem solve, and manage expectations within all levels of the organization.Leverage strategic relationships to promote business growth and operational excellence across Air Methods’ lines of business in close collaboration with Sales and Operations Teams.Collaborate with Supply Chain on life safety and security measures at corporate facilitiesProvide leadership guidance and support to the enterprise on Emergency Management and Emergency Operations.Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) from a four-year college or university in Aviation Safety or other related fields and ten or more years’ related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experienceMaster’s degree (M.S./M.A.) preferred in emergency management or related field(s)Three (3) years related experience.Experience in Aviation or EMS and Hospital operations preferredFederal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) training preferredFEMA IC-100 (Introduction to the ICS), ICS-200 (Basic ICS for Initial Response), IS-700 (NIMS, an Introduction), IS-800 (National Response Framework (NRF), an Introduction), IS-2200 (Basic EOC Functions) requiredFEMA ICS-300 (Intermediate ICS for Expanding Incidents) and ICS-400 (Advanced ICS) on hireFEMA Professional Development Series (PDS) preferred

Skills

Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.Considerable knowledge of Emergency Management (EM) principles, practices, operations, procedures, business, and requirements.Considerable knowledge of Emergency Operation Center (EOC) functions.Ability to build coalitions with teammates and partnersAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Ability to develop, coordinate, and facilitate complex plansAbility to facilitate large group meetings and brief high-level executives and customersAbility to stay professional and efficient in high stress situationsAbility to make accurate and timely decisions

Computer Skills

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OutlookAbility to learn Air Methods utilized computer systems applicable for Emergency and Crisis Management (e.g., SendWordNow®, StormGeo®, etc)

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) preferred
