Director Exchange Relations - CARM (Content Acquisition & Rights Management)
About the Role: Grade Level (for internal use): 12 Director Exchange Relations - CARM (Content Acquisition & Rights Management) The Role: The Director, Exchange Relations in Content Acquisition & Rights Management (CARM), will support the centralized function within S&P Global responsible for the licensing, distribution and management of 3rd party content and services globally. This CARM role will manage a team responsible supporting SPGI’s acquisition, utilization, and distribution of market data sourced from stock exchanges globally. The primary focus will be to review existing Exchange relationships, to ensure that use of 3rd party content and services contracts meet the needs of our businesses and to deliver on cost synergies where possible. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and manage relationships with various Exchanges, be responsible for negotiating commercial and contractual terms related to the business’s internal use and external redistribution of Exchange data across various proprietary products. This candidate will manage a CARM team that supports the Exchanges relationships as noted above. The CARM group currently manages this function across the enterprise. This position will be based in either New York, NY or London. Responsibilities: Manage content acquisition with a focus on S&P Global Market Intelligence. Responsible for a team with the following areas of responsibility: Establish and maintain positive and productive relationships with a variety of assigned current and prospective stock exchanges across all regions, keeping abreast of products and services offered by each Exchange and all associated market data policies. Establish the same with key internal business stakeholders. Work with all relevant business stakeholders to (a) review requests for additional content and services, clearly documenting and understanding each request, (b) create and execute on strategies around content use and product creation or enhancements. Coordinate with other CARM team members. Lead commercial negotiations with each Exchange as applicable, finalizing into a complete and executed agreement, obtain necessary business stakeholder approvals, and post-execution, manage rights and obligations, requests for information and audits, and maintain positive and productive relationships with assigned exchange partners. Collaborate with CARM’s senior leadership team including the Global Head of CARM. Lead contract renewal process for all assigned exchanges and agreements. Collaborate with business stakeholders to assess potential for re-evaluation and re-negotiation as may best benefit the evolving needs and budgets of each business. Maintain accurate and up-to-date summaries of Exchange relationships and related contract and policy terms. Pro-actively develop and maintain knowledge of S&P Global’s products and services, and of S&P Global’s business units’ evolving business requirements as well as of the products and services offered by your assigned exchange partners. Consistently seek to expand understanding of the financial information and market data industry, in order to obtain content and services that are relevant and contribute to the success of S&P Global’s business divisions. Commercial deal and contractual negotiations – vendor selection process, negotiation of commercial terms and finalize into complete and executed agreements, obtain necessary business stakeholder approvals, and post-execution management of rights and obligations for vendor partnerships. For larger/broader partnerships, collaborate with other CARM colleagues, partnership teams and stakeholders across the enterprise. Work with the businesses to create data strategies around product creation, enhancements and increased revenues and execute on strategies by presenting and procuring approvals and recommendations focusing on the Exchanges relationships and data Exchanges provide. Partner with business stakeholders to review requests for additional content and services, primarily coming from Exchanges, clearly documenting, and understanding each request. Ensure compliance with existing license grants, making recommendations to the business on potential risks and suggested actions. Implement and promote best practices globally, including identifying opportunities to optimize and leverage data sources across the organization. Abide by CARM standards and protocol, implementing new processes and procedures to evolve with the business and optimize the workflows of CARM and the value it provides to the enterprise. Coordinate and facilitate the sharing of data and information assets between and among the S&P Global businesses while following the prescribed guidelines of the S&P Global Data Asset Sharing Framework. Compensation/Benefits Information: (This section is only applicable to US candidates) S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $100,379 to $201,800. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications. What We are Looking For: Required: Bachelor’s degree required with 10+ years relevant experience specifically focused on financial information/market data vendor relationship management, contract negotiations and overall market data management; including 2-3 years relevant experience focused on stock exchanges relationship management. Staff management, problem-solving, and synergy cost savings analysis experience a must. Knowledge of exchanges’ products and services and associated market data policies, as well as experience of 3rd party entitlement systems (e.g. DACs, DART). Complex and creative commercial deal negotiation experience as well as strong aptitude for reviewing, revising, and authoring contract terms a must. Attention to detail, follow-through on projects and multi-tasking skills. Candidate must possess a solid knowledge of financial information and market data industry – including various vendors and products available in the marketplace. Excellent Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. This position will frequently work within Word for contractual review, Excel for costs/budget and other reporting, PowerPoint for presentations, and Outlook for mail & calendar Must have strong customer focus with demonstrated ability to be highly responsive and present solutions to requests and issues. Comfortable liaising with internal stakeholders and external partners at a variety of levels. Solid presentation and writing skills with ability to influence. Excellent organizational and team building skills. Must be highly organized and self-directed with the ability to work autonomously and adapt to change. Strong interpersonal verbal and written communications skills with the ability to inspire others to find creative solutions to challenging situations or problems. Strong people management experience and skill to mentor employees to work autonomously, lead a team’s overall strategy and individual team member’s career development.
