Director for Academic Advising and Policies – Tepper School of Business

Carnegie Mellon University’s Master of Science in Computational Finance (MSCF) Program is a unique joint venture between four colleges and is widely regarded as one of the nation’s best quantitative finance programs.  It is administratively housed in the Tepper School of Business, a top-ranked comprehensive business school well-known for its academic rigor and focus on analytical leadership. 

Carnegie Mellon University’s MSCF team is searching for a Director for Academic Advising and Policies.  This is a dynamic opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by enthusiastically forming strong bonds with students and helping students navigate their relationship with CMU before, during, and after their time at the university. 

Your core responsibilities will include:

Student academic advising, advising on student academic progress, academic integrity issues, time management, student events, and maintenance of general student well-being

Works closely with various university student counseling and accommodation services

Review and interpret university policies and craft new, or recommend changes to, program policies for program effectiveness and university compliance.

Work with MSCF Professor, MSCF Career Services and CMU Office of Community Standard and & Integrity on all academic integrity violations and MSCF Code of Conduct violations.

Manages MSCF orientation, course scheduling and registration, degree audits and verifications, official program documentation (including the MSCF Student Handbook and the MSCF Academic Calendar), and external reports and approvals (including Middle States and the New York Board of Education)

Works closely with the MSCF Executive Director in New York and the MSCF Director in New York to ensure successful day-to-day operation of the program and the well-being of its students; works closely with other MSCF departments to collaborate on various projects and with the University on various issues

Manage all operational aspects of the program (Pittsburgh campus), both day-to-day and long-term, effectively.  Supervise staff, including hiring, workload determination, task delegation, training, performance monitoring, and evaluation.  Serve as the main contact for inquiries from students, professors, and staff.  Monitor general office expenditures and provide periodic reports to the Executive Director.

Supervises the MSCF Communications Coach and Senior Academic Coordinator

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

5-8 years of experience in academic program management required

A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

In accordance with the pay transparency legislation set forth by NY, the corresponding salary range for this position ranges between $87k-$95k (Pittsburgh market).
