Director I, Audit

Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR), a Fortune 500 engineering, procurement, construction, fabrication and maintenance company, is looking to add a Director I, Audit position. This position will be located at Fluor’s Corporate Headquarters in Irving, Texas and will require spending a majority of workdays in the office each week. This position will report to the Audit Vice President.
Scope
This position develops, manages, coordinates, and oversees the Audit plan and activities of respective Finance & Operations (F&O) and Information Technology (IT) Audit departments. This position provides administrative department direction and responsive support to Internal Audit and company senior management. This requires ensuring that Audit resources are used efficiently and effectively. This role manages scheduled Audit plan and resources to meet Audit goals. This position prepares timely required Audit reports and prepares Audit Committee reports.
Specifically, this role will be primarily responsible for overseeing Internal Audit’s responsibilities for testing the organization’s Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance program. Will also lead team members to assess internal controls over financial reporting, identify potential risks, conduct audits across various business functions, and address compliance with SOX regulations through collaboration. Will also work closely with different departments like finance and IT to report findings and recommendations to senior management.
This position has the responsibility to act as a corporate or intra-corporate expert on auditing methods, procedures, systems, and the development of historical information. The position has fiduciary accountability for the associated budget.
Principal Job Duties & Responsibilities
• Ensure individual audit plans appropriately address
o Assessing compliance with Internal Control over Financial Reporting requirements
o Corporate and project financial, operations and technology control risks
o Compliance with company policies and procedures
o Adequacy and reliability of the internal control systems
o Extent to which company assets are accounted for and safeguarded from loss
o Adequacy and reliability of financial data developed and reported to management
• Manage established departmental overhead budgets and accurately track plan and outlook of estimated overhead expenditures
• Manage audits and assignments with complex and/or sensitive issues
• Perform proper follow up and follow through of assignments, issues, and requirements
• Help to develop and deliver training programs concerning audit and company policies and procedures
• Risk Assessment: Review comprehensive risk assessments performed by management to identify key areas of financial reporting risk and prioritize audit focus accordingly.
• SOX Audit Planning: Develop and execute a detailed SOX audit plan, including control testing procedures, to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls.
• Control Testing: Lead the team in performing control testing procedures across various business processes to assess the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls.
• Issue Management: Identify and document control deficiencies, coordinate with SOX department to escalate critical issues to management, and track remediation plans to ensure timely corrective actions.
• Reporting and Communication: Coordinate with SOX department and review reports summarizing findings, recommendations, and management action plans related to SOX compliance.
• Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization, including finance, IT, operations, and legal teams, to facilitate smooth audit execution of SOX program and address compliance concerns.
• Team Leadership: Manage and lead internal audit professionals responsible for SOX compliance activities, including performance evaluations and training.
• External Auditor Liaison: Coordinate with external auditors to ensure a seamless audit process and address any concerns raised during their review.
• Technology: Oversee the administration of Internal Audit IT applications, ensuring proper change management, access management, and computer operations controls are in place and operating effectively.
• Guide the timely issuance of reports to appropriate levels of management; assure clarity, conciseness, and the relevance of conclusions and recommendations
• Determine ways to improve the company's overall internal control environment, and make recommendations to the audit executive of improvement opportunities
• Provide leadership in audit, finance and technology risks and controls as well as project control; keep Audit management informed of important issues
• Perform special investigations of a confidential, critical, and/or complex nature
• Interface with other groups inside and outside the organization, senior management, other locations, project management, finance personnel, information technology personnel, clients, vendors and auditors
• Maintain familiarity with company policies, procedures, systems, knowledge of current audit developments and a general awareness of areas affecting the company's business
• Coordinate and provide year end and other requested assistance to outside auditors
• Communicate the progress of audits and other work performed, clearly, concisely, and in a logical manner
• Maintain a high level of technical skills
• Provide functional and technical guidance to audit team members
• Typically manage personnel and provide an environment for the development and professional advancement of staff members, including on-the-job and formal training and development opportunities, and timely performance feedback
• Leverage internal and external resources to administer policies and procedures consistently across all business lines, functions, and locations
• Analyze situations, identify and forecast pertinent problems and evaluate realistic options; and recommend/implement appropriate course of action
• Organize and prioritize a variety of complex projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines
• Maintain compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and global standards
