Administer and coordinate the technical activities of a scientific or research group in relation to the operation of specialized laboratories. Acts as an advisor to subordinates to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems. Develops and administers budgets, schedules, and performance requirements. Frequently interacts with other labs and coordinates the program activities with responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods, and employees. Serve as an advisor to faculty and lab managers to meet schedules and or resolve technical problems. Insure Standard Operating Procedures and protocols are maintained and applied. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelors degree in a scientific discipline or in the health or physical sciences from a regionally accredited institution.
Experience:
Minimum of seven years of experience.
Must have previous experience managing projects.
Experience must include a minimum of three years in a supervisory/managerial role.
Mouse handling experience.

Job Duties Description of Job Duty Administer and coordinate the technical activities, educational programs, and infrastructure related to the operation of the specialized laboratories.
Develop and implement Laboratory(s) policies and procedures. Manage and coordinate operational policies and procedures; coordinate with research staff on issues which impact laboratory services.
Maintain liaison with investigators, research personnel and staff to solve specific operating problems and improve technical activities. Advise on technical procedures, techniques and equipment, and maintain conformance with specific operational standards.
Maintain quality checks on safety of laboratories, including biohazards and insure maintenance of the facilities according to Good Laboratory Practices.
Assist in formulating and implementing the short and long-range goals for the operation of the laboratories; set priorities, assign responsibilities, and establish timetables. Project future needs and formulate strategies consistent with projections.
Plan and schedule work for the group to ensure proper distribution of assignments as well as adequate manning, space, and facilities for subsequent performance of duties. Manages and coordinates the activities of a project(s) with responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods, and employees; coordinate and supervise the performance of routine and specialized technical procedures in multiple laboratories.
Ensures the maintenance of BSL3 supplies, records, security procedures and the cleaning and disinfection sessions.
Evaluate and recommend new techniques and technologies. Install and maintain laboratory equipment in compliance with federal regulations.
Prepare technical reports reflecting volume of work, procedures utilized and test results; coordinate the preparation of reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
Plan and conduct meetings with subordinates to ensure compliance with established practices, to implement new policies and to keep employees abreast of current changes and standards.
Represent the department/laboratory in interactions with other departments.
Assure that the laboratory technicians are properly trained in Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and equipment specific requirements. Assists with the orientation, training and supervision of students and postdoctoral fellows in the application and use of new equipment as well as maintaining and following the standard operating procedures for laboratory activities.
Assist in the determination of fiscal requirements and in the preparation of budgetary recommendations. Compile and prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Recommend, negotiate pricing and approve purchases of major capital equipment.
Develop and implement quality assurance programs relating to calibration and maintenance of equipment. Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate systems to evaluate current and projected laboratory services and productivity of the laboratories. Coordinate the functions and operations of the laboratories with each other and with other institutional departments.
Provide guidance as requested regarding hiring, training, promotions, and disciplinary issues for technical personnel.
Facilitate facility renovations and new construction project, including review of architectural design and building requirements. Identify areas where facility upgrades are necessary and obtain cost estimates for implementing improvements. Coordinate with applicable MSM resources on preparation and completion of facility improvement projects.
Ensures that facilities and equipment are in optimal and proper working condition. Coordinates preventative maintenance and repairs as needed. May perform minor repairs if qualified and as needed. May also advise on upgrades for performance enhancement
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
