Responsibilities

Position will be based out of Arizona General Hospital - Mesa with monthly travel to Arizona General Hospital - Laveen

Provides leadership and direction to nursing personnel in accordance with nursing and administrative policies. Is accountable for department on a 24-hour basis. Effectively functions as a resource person and role model to staff for clinical and leadership issues. 

Effectively functions as a resource person and role model to staff for clinical and leadership issues.Develops goals, objectives and action plans for department.Serves as a liaison between nursing unit personnel, patients, families, medical staff and ancillary/support departments.Coordinates the development and implementation of departmental Performance Improvement.Keeps the VP/CNO informed of current unit activities, problems and actions through oral and written reports.Promotes open communication within the hospital, patient care unit, ancillary and support departments.Prepares budget for the nursing unit and assumes responsibility and accountability for the performance of the unit relative to the budget.Completes reports for patient incidents, employee injuries, customer communications and other necessary forms within designated time frames.Supervises compliance of unit personnel to safety, infection control, nursing and personnel policies and procedures.Participates in the development, review and/or revision of nursing policies through participation in the Patient Care Council.Serves in designated Medical staff committees, Nursing and any other committees as assigned.Maintains emergency preparedness plans for the departments.Plans and maintains a staffing pattern on the nursing unit which provides for the implementation of appropriate patient care on a 24-hour basis.Maintains nursing care hours within appropriate unit parameters.Recruits, interviews and hires staff.Plans and implements an orientation program for new nursing personnel.Completes or designates timely completion of performance evaluations for nursing staff. Approves recommendations for wage increases based on employee performance evaluations.Counsels employees and implements disciplinary action as necessary according to severity of infraction utilizing organization personnel policies.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Minimum of 5 years experience in Med/Surg/Telemetry and Intensive Care 5 years management experience required.BSN required; MSN strongly preferred.Current unencumbered AZ RN license requiredAmerican Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
