GENERAL OVERVIEW:
The Operations Director plans, organizes, directs, oversees and manages the operations of the Health Information Management (HIM) Department. Works closely with the Medical Staff, nursing and ancillary departments to assure compliance with JC, DOH, CMS and other regulatory bodies on requirements for documentation and record completion. Interprets regulations, policies and procedures, recommends changes as appropriate and provides relevant feedback to upper management as required. Optimizes reimbursement, controls costs and increases efficiency in the delivery of health information management services. Responsible for daily operations and data requests for multiple facilities. Sets the tone of the department as a service organization, continuously seeking to understand, meet, and exceed customer needs.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plans, organizes, directs, oversees and manages the activities and employees in the HIM Department(s) including Transcription, Release of Information, Analysis/Reanalysis, Filing and Record Retrieval, Prepping/Scanning/Indexing, Tumor Registry and Birth Registry functions within the scope of service. (30%)Provides relevant guidance for HIM managers to identify and resolve internal and external issues. (10%)Develops strategy, specific goals, objectives, budgets and performance standards for areas of responsibility. (10%)Oversees management of appropriate personnel, providing recommendations for hiring, promotion, salary adjustments and personnel action where appropriate. (10%)Plans, evaluates, implements and manages use of all Health Information system applications, including the electronic medical record. (10%)Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards in Health Information Management within scope of service. Administratively responsible for HIM-related committees (i.e. Medical Records Committee, Charts/Forms Committee, etc.), as well as active participation in both System Wide Services and Hospital-specific committees, and related record review activities as assigned and as appropriate. (10%)Administratively responsible for coordinating, educating, facilitating and encouraging medical staff compliance to the bylaws, rules and regulations related to documentation and record completion. (10%)Oversees staff education and training to ensure compliance with regulatory, compliance, and industry standards. (10%)QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum
Associates degree from an approved Health Information Management programRegistered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or (Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)3 years of experience in operations in an acute care hospital settingPreferred
