Director Nursing Education /Cancer Institute
*Description* *Director Nursing Education & Operations/Cancer Institute - Norwalk, CT* *Full-time, 40 hours, Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm* *Summary:* The Director of Nursing Education for the Cancer Institute is responsible for evaluating ambulatory nursing practice for the Cancer Institute. The Director ensures the delivery of high-quality care to all people with cancer adhering to national best practices in accordance with the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer Standards, NAPBC, NAPRC, Oncology Nursing Society standards and radiation oncology standards and other accrediting agencies such as the Joint Commission. The Director will also be responsible for evaluating nursing clinical workflows with the expectation of the standardization of nursing practice across the Institute as well as responsibility for oversight of oncology nursing policies and procedures. This role is under the Cancer Institute and reports to the VP, Cancer Institute with a dotted line to the AVP, Nursing Education for Nuvance Health. This role will be expected to work in collaboration with the Regional Site Directors, hospital Chief Nursing Officers and in-patient nurse educators where clinical oversight overlap and ensure open and clear communication working towards common goals. *Responsibilities:* 1. Drive excellent patient outcomes, staff and clinical excellence 2. Provide direction, and administration of day-to-day nursing related patient care 3. Promote an environment of high reliability and high nursing engagement 4. Establish an annual educational curriculum for new infusion, radiation and practice nurses as well as current oncology nursing staff 5. Create, update and maintain annual nurse competencies for infusion, radiation and oncology nursing staff 6. Manage, maintain annual goals for nursing staff as well as the establishment of institute short and long term goals for nursing staff 7. Manage policies and procedures on an annual basis and establish polices and procedures, as needed 8. Evaluate and organize nursing practice for one network wide standard 9. Coordinate practice with medical staff, other departments and hospital leadership to ensure seamless and high quality care 10. Organize and maintain annual competencies for all institute nursing staff 11. Hire and train new oncology nursing staff members 12. Respond to nursing-related issues in a timely manner 13. Director will stay up to date on newly approved cancer treatments, best practices and education staff for cancer and blood related disorders in partnership with pharmacy and other relevant departments. 14. Perform regular audits in all areas to ensure high-quality and best practices are being adhered to 15. Other job duties as assigned *Requirements:* * Must have strong organizational and oncology experience * Bachelor's Degree in Nursing; APRN preferred * Must have in-depth knowledge of cancer care and standards * A minimum of 10 year healthcare related experience AND at least 5 years of current experience in cancer care * Oncology certification (ONC, AOCNP) * Aptitude for problem-solving skills * Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills including strong emotional intelligence * Outstanding written and verbal communication skills Salary Range: $59.01 - $109.58 Hourly, commensurate with experience *EOE, including disability/vets.* We will endeavor to make a reasonable accommodation to the known physical or mental limitations of a qualified applicant with a disability unless the accommodation would impose an undue hardship on the operation of our business.
