The Director of Access and Opportunity Programs plays a critical role in fostering an inclusive and equitable environment for all students. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of legal requirements for disability services in higher education, including ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and related legislation. The Director must possess expertise in assessing individual needs, determining reasonable accommodations, and ensuring compliance with institutional policies and federal guidelines. Beyond compliance, the Director is responsible for developing and implementing innovative programs that inform, acclimate, and educate students to promote their academic, personal, and social success. Key programs under the Director's leadership include Access and Equity, the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), and the Collective Pursuits for Academic and Social Supports Program (C-PASS). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: + Prepare the complete budget of the programs and authorize and administer all expenditures made by the EOP, C-PASS and Access and Equity Programs. + Coordinate the interaction of the staff with other units of the campus and college (student financial services, enrollment services, residence life, academic advisement, etc.) + Maintain accurate records on the program, prepare status and statistical reports, and develop the annual assessment plan for Access and Opportunity Programs. Recruit, select and evaluate employees. + Establish and maintain records and research into student performance and program effectiveness, and prepare annual reports. + Represent and interpret the program and services to the college, relevant government bodies, the public and students. + Offer and attend trainings and other professional development opportunities. + Develop and maintain policies and procedures for the provision of accommodations and program operations. + Assist the Assistant Director with pre-admission consultation for individuals seeking academic accommodations under The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. HDAD/My Documents/Positions/Director of Accessibility and Opportunity Programs. + Supervise the review of all documentation pertaining to students' disabilities and determining/assigning the reasonable academic accommodations. + Participate in the New York State Disability Service Council and AHEAD to stay apprised of changing legislation and best practices, attend annual trainings and meetings. ? Participate in local and national professional organizations to remain current in best practices for disabilities services. + Serve as the Electronic and Information Technology (EIT) Accessibility Officer for the campus, overseeing the EIT Accessibility Plan and its implementation. + Articulate recommendations to improve campus accessibility including buildings, walkways, classrooms, testing and housing accommodations. + Oversee all transition-related + Serve on various campus committees which include and address inclusion and access. + Serve as a resource for the campus community and a liaison to the academic deans, program directors and coordinators, and faculty on compliance issues relating to ADA, Section 504 and Section 508 as needed. + Assist with information sessions including Open Houses, Orientations, Accepted Student Days and off-campus recruitment events. In collaboration with Assistant Director: + Meet with residence life to evaluate requests for accessible campus housing, emotional support animals, and dietary accommodation requests. + Meet with students and their families during campus visits for information and Meet and Greet interviews. + Hire, contract, and coordinate the services of external professionals for services related to student accommodations, such as sign language interpreters or CART services. + Provide support and information to students' families while maintaining student confidentiality. + Provide crisis intervention. Interface with student crises and access resources on/off campus. + Work with various campus offices to raise awareness of disability-related information and resources by providing passive and active education (activities, events, workshops, etc.).
