Director of Accounting
Description We are looking for an experienced Director of Accounting to join our team on a contract basis in Westborough, Massachusetts. In this role, you will oversee financial reporting, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and maintain a strong control environment. This position is ideal for someone with a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of technical accounting and SEC reporting. Responsibilities: • Manage the preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial statements, including Management Discussion and Analysis for SEC filings. • Maintain thorough documentation and work papers for financial reporting, including US GAAP checklists and accounting close procedures. • Collaborate with external auditors to support the annual audit process and ensure timely completion of deliverables. • Lead initiatives to improve financial reporting processes, enhancing efficiency and maintaining high-quality standards. • Develop technical accounting memos and analyses on topics such as revenue recognition and goodwill impairment. • Update and create accounting policies to align with new guidance or business practices, ensuring compliance with evolving standards. • Monitor proposed accounting updates (ASUs) and oversee their implementation across the organization. • Provide technical accounting expertise to cross-functional teams on complex matters, including lease accounting and stock-based compensation. • Maintain and enhance internal controls for accounting transactions and financial reporting, including compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Act requirements. • Partner with external consultants to assess risks and design controls, addressing any deficiencies in a timely manner. Requirements • Extensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and technical accounting standards. • Proven accounting, analytical, and research skills with a strong attention to detail. • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly. • Demonstrated expertise in project management and the ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively. • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to collaborate across teams. • Minimum of 6 years of experience in technical accounting and SEC reporting. • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. • Experience with Notified software is a plus.
