Founded in 1860, Bard College is an international network of highly innovative and admired educational institutions grounded in the liberal arts and sciences.Simon’s Rock at Bard College (https://simons-rock.edu/) actualizes the simple yet radical idea that many students are ready for college before the age of 18. This idea, first envisioned by Elizabeth Blodgett Hall on the original Simon’s Rock campus in 1966 in Great Barrington, MA, launched the Early College movement in the United States and beyond. Simon’s Rock has carried out this mission for 59 years in Great Barrington, and in July of 2025 is relocating to the Massena campus of Bard College, in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.
In this new location, Simon’s Rock will have a diverse student population of approximately 180 students, both boarding and day students, drawn nationally and internationally, with a significant population of students identifying as LGBTQIA+. This includes enrollment in the Early College Associate in Arts degree program as well as in Bard Academy. Launched in 2015, Bard Academy is a two-year high school program with courses designed and taught by college professors and leading to entry into college after the 10th grade. Students at the Massena campus may enter the Early College either as matriculates from Bard Academy or as students directly admitted to Early College after completing 10th or 11th grade, or the equivalent in home schooled or non-traditional pathways.
The Role:
For Simon’s Rock at Bard College, we seek an experienced, data-driven, innovative, and compassionate leader to serve as its Director of Admission. The Director is responsible for the overall leadership and direction for student recruitment and admission for both Bard Academy and the Early College program. The Director needs a holistic view of the connections among the areas of enrollment, academic affairs, and campus life, as well as the capacity to build strong and supportive relationships across them and to work effectively with all who have an interest in the shaping and success of Simon’s Rock’s student body. The Director should be an active, present member of the campus community.
This position is a full-time position with benefits, on-site five days per week at the Massena campus of Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.
Duties include:
+ Provide creative leadership in the development and execution of student recruitment and admission programs that embodies the values and goals of Simon’s Rock
+ Provide strategic oversight and direction to a talented team of admission counselors; develop a strong sense of teamwork, equity, and investment in the Simon’s Rock mission; establish an environment of mentoring and support
+ Establish strategic direction and priorities for admissions built on quantitative analysis and strategic decision making, while fostering a culture that emphasizes strong personal relationships, a high-touch customer-service approach, clear communication, transparency, and collaboration across the institution
+ Establish close working relationships with senior staff, faculty, trustees, alumni, and others to engage in conversations about enrollment priorities, shifting demographics, recruitment, financial aid allocation, retention, branding, alumni engagement, and the priorities that inform and shape admission, financial aid, and retention policies and programs
+ Create and implement strategies for the intentional recruitment of international students
+ Work closely with the Enrollment Committee to review and analyze data on student enrollment and success to shape strategic direction
+ Re-evaluate, on a regular basis, the effectiveness of Simon’s Rock’s recruitment, admission, and financial aid programs to ensure alignment with the strategic goals and direction of the College
+ Develop and manage the budget for admission and enrollment management, ensuring that resources are allocated in a way that achieves goals
+ Establish relationships with, and manage services provided by a variety of third party vendors who are charged with helping Simon’s Rock identify, recruit, and support students who will thrive
+ Establish a competitive, faculty-selected scholarship program, and collaborate with Communications to successfully market this program
+ In collaboration with Communications ensure that the institution’s mission and vision are creatively represented; develop and utilize existing and emerging technologies to communicate and build relationships with students, families, and secondary school counselors
+ Serve as an ambassador for Simon’s Rock in communicating its message to prospective students and their families, current students and parents, secondary schools, alumni, faculty, staff, trustees, and other external constituents
+ Other duties as assigned
Required qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree
+ Driver’s license
+ Strong intellectual orientation and sense of curiosity
+ A proven track record of success in leadership positions in admission; experience within a liberal arts institution would be preferred
+ Proven experience in providing leadership, oversight, and strategic direction
+ Strong understanding of how to use data analysis to inform strategic and tactical plans for enrollment management
+ Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge about diversity, equity, and inclusion as critical components of academic excellence and student success
+ A strong foundation and expertise in financial management with the ability to make sound judgments in a resource-constrained environment; ability to develop and implement the budget effectively, aligning resources with strategic priorities.
+ Excellent communication and organizational skills as well as strong analytical abilities
Preferred qualifications:
+ Master’s degree
+ Experience with admissions in an Early College program
+ Experience with admissions in an independent school and/or liberal arts college

Compensation:$100,000 to $110,000
This salary range reflects the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for the position at the time of the job posting. Salary decisions are dependent on several factors including but not limited to market and organizational considerations, experience, and qualifications of a selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
