Description
JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Anatomy has deep foundational knowledge, is experienced in all aspects of anatomy, and has achieved a high level of expertise. Responsibilities of the successful candidate will include direction of the curriculum, lab management, cadaveric oversight, and teaching in the COM and MMS anatomy courses. This position will also advise medical students, serve on college committees, and contribute to the mission of the college.
CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES : The following are a list of Academic Exercises that may be required as a member of the Director of Anatomy and Preclinical Faculty Member from time to time:
+ Lead the academic development of LECOM’s anatomy curriculum, lecture materials, lab exercises, exam assessments, and other materials related to the courses and laboratories;
+ Prepare course syllabus in detail, to include, all assignments, readings both for laboratory exercises and discussions (examinations) that will guide the student through the rigorous curriculum;
+ Construct the curriculum to align with the NBOME COMLEX Level 1 Blueprint;
+ Serve as an instructor in the anatomy course and related areas, which shall include both lecture and laboratory activities;
+ Construct anatomy assessments and serve as an examiner;
+ Meet with classes according to the published schedule;
+ Evaluate, grade, and provide feedback for all students who are in each lecture class and each laboratory assigned;
+ Organize remedial exams and courses as necessary;
+ Prepare tools that will aid in the evaluation of students’ knowledge attainment to identify students who are discovered to be weak in various areas and proactively assist them in gaining competence;
+ Prepare educational tools (A/V, demonstration models, lectures, lesson plans…etc.), demonstrations, lectures, small group discussions, and the selection of suggested and required reading from various sources, and coordinating these educational tools with other faculty members;
+ Provide academic advice and support to LECOM’s students through regularly scheduled and published office hours and by appointment;
+ Interview prospective faculty and student candidates for the College of Medicine (COM);
+ Serve on committees, as assigned and as advisor to assigned students and at least one club;
+ Participate in, at minimum, two scholarly activity or research projects yearly;
+ Attend “Team” meetings approved by COM that require advancement of your profession;
+ Contribute to and be responsible for overall student success, including, but not limited to, advising and student outcomes;
+ Contribute directly to the Mission of LECOM embodying the essence of Osteopathic Principles and Practices by assisting with Institutional fundraising and participating in the LECOM Scholarship Auction;
+ Faculty member will participate in scholarly activity so to enrich and broaden the student learning experience;
+ Faculty member will commit to being a representative of LECOM by being actively involved in the community, including, but not limited to, serving on Boards, participating in community fundraisers and overall outreach;
+ Must be able to take direction and receive assignments from the Assistant Dean of Preclinical Education and Dean of Academic Affairs; and
+ Accept other duties assigned/needed for the Institution’s needs.

Minimum Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
+ Oversee the anatomy laboratory, assuring the laboratory regulations and safety and the college functions held within that laboratory;
+ Knowledge of human anatomy;
+ Knowledge of dissection skills in human anatomy;
+ The candidate will assist in hiring a team of students to prosect cadavers and coordinate the yearly delivery, inventory, and final disposal of cadavers;
+ Maintain, organize, and reorder all Anatomy Lab supplies;
+ Assure the anatomy laboratory remains clean, organized, and ready for instruction;
+ Complete the anatomy budget draft and provide to the Dean of Academic Affairs;
+ Excellent organizational, leadership, and interpersonal communication skills;
+ Enjoys interacting with students;
+ Ability to provide verbal and written feedback;
+ Compliance with state and federal regulations and safety protocols;
+ Knowledge of student and patient’s privacy (i.e. FERPA, HIPAA…etc.);
+ Follow proper OSHA and safety guidelines;
+ Protect equipment (office, facility…etc.);
+ Strong communication skills are essential, as well as computer literacy (MS Office Suit [i.e. Word, PowerPoint, and Excel]) and accurate data entry skills;
+ Excellent organizational and leadership skills;
+ Must be accurate and attentive to detail;
+ Must be trained and certified in the Institutional Data System;
+ Maintaining an established work schedule;
+ Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills, including tact and diplomacy;
+ Effectively using organizational and planning skills, including attention to detail and follow-through;
+ Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands;
+ Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials;
+ Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships;
+ The ability to report to work as scheduled, ready to devote full attention and energy to the important work of LECOM; and
+ The ability to accept work requests from other managers and supervisors in a respectful and cooperative manner and to independently answer such requests;
+ The ability to work cooperatively and collegially with others, consistent with a workplace of dignity and respect and EEO rules and regulations;
+ The ability to devote full attention and energy to the important work of LECOM in a timely fashion; and
+ Be able to be flexible to accept other duties needed/assigned for the Institution’s needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and experience equivalent to: a Ph.D., D.O. M.D. or MS degree with teaching experience in anatomy academia or other related field, as well as, two to five (2-5) years’ or more of experience practicing requir ed.
