The Role

At CoStar Group, buildings are at the heart of our database.  Identifying architectural styles, building attributes, details to interior build outs and energy ratings tell the story of a building.  The CoStar Building Rating System is the benchmark for commercial building ratings in North America and the United Kingdom.  With this rating system, CoStar established a standard set of definitions of expected quality for each rating and differentiated by property type.   These one-to-five-star ratings provided a standardized classification.  CoStar is expanding its products globally and including new property types including single family residences and is seeking a Director of Architecture and Building Classification responsible for reviewing, refining, extending and maintaining and testing this rating system and establishing a space-based rating system that will complement the building rating system.  They will build a team consisting of an Interior Designer and Residential and Commercial Architects.  This team will work closely with Research, Product Design and Engineers to properly categories buildings through artificial intelligence and building attributes collected through our Research process.   The Director of Architecture and Building Classification will be directly responsible for key components that constitutes how buildings are categories and viewed across the CoStar Group platforms.  

RESPONSIBILITIES

Build a team experienced in Architecture for both commercial and residential and interior design, that will be responsible for expanding architectural definitions, building ratings, property classifications and ESG classifications within the CoStar Group products.Review and refine definitions, weight criteria and implement this revised classification system across global real estate assets.   This effort will include restatement of existing building rating and providing training materials for identifying and classifying any new building entered in the CoStar databases.   Establish a Space-based rating system to enable every space in buildings to be rated.  This space-based rating will be used to provide insight and context into rent variances for similar spaces within the same building and might be based on factors such as, condition of space, build out status, location in building.   Responsible for expanding the CoStar Group definitions of Architectural styles for commercial and residential properties. Build a process of reviewing and maintaining CoStar Star Rating system, including a process to review challenged ratings from brokers and owners. Collaborate with engineering to leverage ML/AI technology to identify characteristics and amenities and to ensure consistency across tens of millions of properties and continued enhancement and calibration of rating systems.   Develop a rigorous testing procedure for all classifications to ensure classifications are applied correctly.Build meaningful categorization of ESG attributes for buildingsPartner with training leaders to design and build training for Research Associates based on new attributes to be collected by Research and how that data will be implemented.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors required from an accredited/not for profit University or College, with a concentration in Architecture; Masters preferred Minimum of 10+ years as an Architects, Architectural Technologist, or Architectural HistorianProve track record establishing operational frameworks that aligned to achieving business goals. Demonstrated ability to operate in fast paced environment with high creative and delivery standards.Ability to collaborate across functional areas to deliver assignments.Strong communication skills required both written and including an ability to influence others through data.
