Masters Saint Anselm College, a private, liberal arts college in the Benedictine tradition, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Athletics. Reporting to the President of the College, the Director of Athletics serves as a member of the senior administrative leadership team and is responsible for 23 NCAA varsity sports programs, all service areas (sports medicine, strength and conditioning, sports information, and academic success), as well as intramurals and recreation. The successful candidate will also be responsible for providing oversight for the day-to-day operations of Saint Anselm College athletics and a staff of nearly 100 coaches and administrators.Primary functions will include sport supervision, a commitment to academic integrity, enhancing the student-athlete experience, and a focus on strategic planning, fundraising, and public relations. The athletics department has an annual operating budget of $4.2 million and an athletic scholarship budget of $3.65 million.
Essential Responsibilities and Position Accountabilities: Administrative •Assist with oversight of 23 intercollegiate sports with more than 630 student athletes •Work with the senior leadership team on development and implementation of strategic plan for Athletics •Work collaboratively with selected campus units and College constituents as athletics liaison to key areas such as Admission, Advancement and Budget/Finance •Oversee, supervise, and manage administrative units, selected sports, and service areas •Responsible for overall fiscal management (salaries, operational and capital budgets)
Personnel Management •In conjunction with Human Resources, oversee search efforts for all athletics positions to maximize recruiting and hiring processes; including annual evaluation and review of coaches and administrative staff •Provide leadership in meeting the athletic department’s commitment to affirmative action objectives, including diversity and gender equity in athletics •Encourage and create an atmosphere of sportsmanship, NCAA compliance, professionalism and respect among the staff, coaches and student-athletes within the program
External Relations •Oversee external revenue and relations efforts including fundraising, corporate sponsorship, promotions and marketing activities, with considerable interaction with multiple external constituents (Trustees, alumni, etc.) •Serve as a member of the Northeast 10 Athletics Council and maintain a positive working relationship with the NE10 Commissioner. •Manage comprehensive annual schedule of athletics department special events (i.e. Hall of Fame induction) •Work closely with coaches and booster groups on fundraising, review and approve all external booster and fundraising literature to ensure departmental consistency and compliance with NCAA bylaws •Coordinate and oversee overall camp program revenues and expenditures to increase involvement/participation •Serve as athletics lead on licensing efforts •Act as a spokesperson for the athletic department to the College administration and the community in general
Minimum of eight years of athletics management, leadership, and administrative experience required. Comprehensive understanding of multiple facets of NCAA athletics required. Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience as assistant athletic director or associate athletic director strongly preferred. Demonstrated excellence with interpersonal communications (written and oral) skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment is necessary. Ideal candidate will have excellent branding skills, strong strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Must be comfortable working in team environment with a positive attitude and sense of humor. Unwavering commitment to academic integrity, inclusion, diversity, gender equity, student-athlete welfare and knowledge of NCAA, Title IX compliance.
Successful experience in strategic planning, budgets and sports supervision preferred. Experience with the following key administrative functions is preferred: (a) external revenue generation, (b) media relations/communications, (c) hiring processes and procedures, (d) recreation/intramurals, (e) event management,
(f) knowledge of NCAA championships and bid process, (g) facilities management.
