Director of Athletics & Recreation (Student Athletics Director) **POSITION DETAILS** **ABOUT JOHN JAY COLLEGE** John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) and an internationally recognized leader in educating for justice. The College seeks staff and faculty members who thrive in multicultural academic environments and are committed to access and excellence in higher education. **POSITION DETAILS** The Athletics Director will report to the Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Athletics Director’s duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: + Oversee hiring decisions, training, mentoring, and performance evaluations for coaches and athletics staff. + Create and manage a budget for the athletic department, ensuring the efficient allocation of resources for programs, events, equipment, and facility maintenance. + Direct alumni athletic events, cultivate community partnerships, and identify opportunities to enhance fundraising efforts to support the department’s initiatives and goals. + Design and manage an intramural sports program that fosters active student participation and internal competition. Responsibilities include recruiting participants, organizing and training for game days, and promoting the program throughout the college community. + Establish and maintain scheduling and facilities usage for athletic competitions, practices, and events in collaboration with campus facilities management. + Establish and maintain standards of dress, scholarship and conduct for team travel and training, and practice rules for all athletes. + Support career development initiatives for student-athletes. + Ensure full compliance with NCAA rules, policies and regulations as well as The City University of New York (CUNY) Athletics Conference. + Responsible for promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the department through recruiting, training, mentoring efforts. + Represent the College at professional meetings and other special or public events. **QUALIFICATIONS** Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required. **PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS** Master’s Degree preferred Supervisory and administrative experience Collegiate coaching and/or playing experience Prior experience as an Interim or Senior Director highly desired or preferred. **CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW** Provides administrative direction and oversight for intercollegiate, intramural and recreational athletics staff, programs, facilities and activities. - Provides oversight for all athletics programs, facilities, and equipment - Ensures compliance with federal, divisional and university athletics regulations - Administers departmental funds and accounts in a fiscally responsible manner - Collaborates with other College departments on recruiting and retaining student athletes - Collaborates with College communications professionals and the media on publicity and reporting of athletic events and results - Manages full- and part-time athletics staff - Plans, implements, and promotes intercollegiate, intramural, and recreational athletic programs including varsity sports, intramural program, a range of credit and non-credit recreational programs - Establish and maintain appropriate policies and standards for teams and recreational groups - Collect and analyze departmental statistics and data and prepare and distribute reports as appropriate - Performs related duties as assigned Job Title Name: Student Athletics Director **CUNY TITLE** Higher Education Officer **FLSA** Exempt **COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS** $100,329 - $132,987 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
