Position Summary:
The Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services is responsible for overseeing clinical aspects of pharmaceutical services at South Central Regional Medical Center. This role encompasses strategic planning, regulatory compliance, and team development to drive growth and enhance the overall customer experience. The Director will lead with a focus on ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality medication therapy to patients. The Director will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, manage pharmacy staff, and drive initiatives that enhance patient care and optimize pharmaceutical practices. The Director will work alongside peers within and outside the pharmacy to ensure strong foundational medication management across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic direction for pharmacy department operations in the areas of responsibility. Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages professional growth and excellence in pharmaceutical care. Recruit, train, and evaluate pharmacy staff to ensure a high level of performance and staff engagement. Develop and implement clinical strategies to enhance pharmacy performance, and improve patient outcomes. Clinical Oversight: Develop and implement clinical pharmacy services and programs to improve medication management and patient outcomes. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of medication therapies, ensuring adherence to best practices and evidence-based guidelines. Collaborate with medical staff to optimize pharmacotherapy and manage complex medication regimens. Oversee effectiveness, efficiency and appropriateness of clinical pharmacy services rendered by pharmacists. Develop and implement clinical pharmacy services policies and procedures to enhance quality of care. Accountable for direct employee compliance with company policies and procedures. Financial Management: Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance of pharmacy operations. Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue enhancement through formulary management and therapeutic interchanges. Leverage 340B strategically for revenue generation, cost savings. Conduct research and analysis to proactively identify trends, opportunities, and challenges in the clinical pharmacy landscape. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing clinical pharmacy practice. Maintain accreditation standards and participate in audits and inspections as necessary. Stay current with changes in pharmacy law and practice standards, and implement necessary changes in clinical practice. Ensure appropriate nursing home consultations. Quality Improvement: Lead quality improvement initiatives related to antibiotic stewardship, pharmacovigilance and medication-use evaluations. Develop and implement performance metrics and quality indicators to assess the effectiveness of clinical pharmacy services. Facilitate continuous education and training for pharmacy staff to promote best practices in clinical pharmacy services. Lead and mentor pharmacy management and staff, fostering a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, and professional growth. Lead the implementation of technology solutions that improve clinical pharmacy services and enhance patient care. Interdepartmental Collaboration: Serve as a key liaison between the pharmacy department and other hospital departments, including nursing, medicine, and administration. Participate in multidisciplinary committees and provide input on formulary management, medication safety, and clinical guidelines. Responsible for Pharmacy and Therapeutics facilitation. Work closely with Director of Clinical Pharmacy, Director of Retail Pharmacy and 340B Coordinator to provide a cohesive pharmacy program within the organization. Community and Professional Engagement: Represent the pharmacy department in community and professional organizations. Foster relationships with external stakeholders, including pharmaceutical companies, regulatory agencies, and professional associations.Qualifications:
Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited institution, required. Current pharmacy licensure in the state of Mississippi. Minimum of 1 year of progressive pharmacy leadership experience, preferably in a hospital setting, preferred. Pharmacy residency, preferred. Strong knowledge of pharmacy regulations, clinical pharmacy practices, and medication management. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Proven ability to lead and motivate a diverse team. Strong understanding of pharmacy laws, regulations, and best practices. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in pharmacy management software and technology.Working Conditions:
This position may require occasional evening or weekend hours for meetings or special projects. The Director will work in a hospital environment with potential exposure to hazardous materials and medications.
