Director of Commercial Credit Delivery Job Details Level Management Job Location Team United HQ - St. Joseph, MI Position Type Full Time Job Shift Day Job Category Banking Description General Summary(What is done and why) The Director of Commercial Credit Delivery is responsible for building and maintaining credit quality within the commercial loan portfolio consistent with organizational strategic and financial objectives.  The Director will manage the commercial lending credit function, inclusive of both managerial responsibilities for all Credit Analysts and direct underwriting work on commercial loan requests. The position is instrumental in implementing a strong credit culture with the commercial credit area to assist in maintaining the desired loan quality of the commercial loan portfolio.  This position is also responsible to manage efficiencies within the commercial lending department to ensure the Credit Union meets or exceeds commercial lending internal service level agreement goals on a continuous basis. Collaboration is essential with the Sales, other areas of Operations, Collections, Compliance and other Departments to ensure a smooth workflow from one department to another.   Essential Functions, in Priority Order(Majority of duties, but not meant to be all inclusive or prevent other duties from being assigned as necessary) + Responsible for maintaining a strong service culture through the efficient and effective delivery of underwriting functions of all commercial loans in accordance with industry standards, and within NCUA and Corporate Lending Policies and Guidelines.  This includes the development and achievement of internal service level agreements in the loan underwriting area.  Recommends and maintains relevant commercial policies and guidelines.  Develops underwriting processes and practices commensurate with the size and risk of loan requests.  Product suite includes but not limited to: Business credit cards, Lines of Credit, Commercial Real Estate Mortgages, and Commercial Term Loans.Time: 35% + Coordinate the loan approval process through clear and accurate tracking of loan approvals (individual, committee and board level), proper and timely distribution of loan committee packets throughout the approval process, and development and tracking of loan committee minutes. Ensure the process and practice for retaining member financial and underwriting information for the commercial lending function within United’s internal drives and credit systems such as nCino are clearly defined and consistent to ensure proper organization, efficiency, and ease of use.  Regularly identify and remedy information improperly maintained within the commercial lending function, including folders in the names of former employees.Time: 15%  + Approve and/or deny commercial loan requests based upon the underwriting results, within authorized lending authority, especially relative to business credit cards and small/modest loan requests such as those handled through the Velocity or similar program. Review and/or prepare Credit Memos as needed that are above authorized lending authority, prior to presentation of the Credit Memo and recommendations to loan committees, senior management, or Board of Directors for approval.  Time: 15% + Responsible for proper controls within the underwriting area to assist in managing portfolio risk.  Coordinates on-going monitoring to ensure that commercial underwriting is securing and analyzing business financial records on a quarterly or annual basis based on the terms in the Business Loan Agreement for all member commercial loan relationships. In addition, responsible for credit risk ratings and grades of each of these credits to ensure acceptable loan quality Shares responsibility with the Community President for the results of both internal and external commercial audits and serves as a key point of contact for internal and external commercial audits.Time: 10 % + Responsible for the department’s continuous improvement. Lead in making recommendations, planning, and implementing changes to drive greater efficiency, reduce risk, or increase provability.   Systems include but are not limited to: nCino, Velocity, core system, Smart Collector and Laser Pro document system.Time: 10% + Works to identify and report critical risk metrics or negative trends within the commercial lending portfolio through monitoring of the portfolio and preparing appropriate risk management reports.  Partner with Group Managers in developing risk management practices that ensure quick results in commercial loans at risk of defaulting; Collaborate with Special Assets Committee (SAC) on any concerns or issues pertaining to the credit.Time: 10% + Work with the Chief Commercial Officer to develop and manage financial/budget aspects of the commercial credit area.Time: 5% Qualifications Education(Minimum education required to perform the duties of this position) + Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field or five years of related work experience required.   Experience(Minimum experience required to perform the duties of this position) In additionto the education requirement: + Three years management experience required. + Five years of credit analysis and/or commercial underwriting experience required. + Experience leading an underwriting department strongly preferred. + In depth understanding of NCUA commercial guidelines and/or FDIC underwriting guidelines.   Knowledge, Skills and Abilities(Minimum technical and communication skill levels and licenses/certificates normally required to perform the duties of this position) + Excellent communication and public relations skills. + Strong analytical and underwriting abilities. + Solid interviewing skills. + Able to use financial calculator and related computer applications. + Knowledge of industry lending guidelines plus knowledge of UFCU policies and procedures would be helpful.   Required Competencies + Demonstrates Courage + Drive for Results + Customer Focus + Integrity and Trust + Self-Development + Business Acumen + Innovation Management + Developing Direct Reports and Others + Managing Through Systems + Organizational Agility + Building Effective Teams + Problem Solving   Mental Requirements + Ability to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization. + Able to interpret various instructions. + Ability to compute discount, interest, profit, and loss ratio and proportion and percentage. + Ability to read, write and comprehend a variety of operating manuals, policies, procedures, guidelines, programs etc. + Ability to prepare memos, reports, and essays using proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar.   Tools and Equipment Used + All available general office equipment as needed. + All available computer software and hardware as needed.   Working Relationships/Contacts(Positions with which incumbent has frequent contact) + Daily, personal/phone contact with Credit Union members. + Daily, personal/written/phone contact with Credit Union staff. + Daily, personal/written/phone contact with Credit Union management.   Physical Demands(Physical effort generally associated with this position) + Talking - Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly. + Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information. + Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. + Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products or operate machinery. + Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. (Almost all office jobs.)   Working Conditions(Typical working conditions associated with this type of work and environmental hazards, if any, that may be encountered in performing the duties of this position) Internal- Work is normally performed in climate-controlled office environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is very limited. Noise level is moderate and includes sounds of normal office equipment (computers, telephones, etc).  No known environmental hazards are encountered in normal performance of duties.
