Director of Communications

The Director of Communications is responsible for leading the communications department, including shaping and executing the company’s internal and external communication strategies. This leadership role includes overseeing the communications team, managing the development and delivery of the organization’s messaging across multiple platforms, enhancing brand visibility, and ensuring all communications align with the company’s core values and strategic objectives. Responsibilities: Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that support the company's business objectives, enhance brand image, and engage employees. Supervise, guide, and mentor the communications team, offering support and direction to foster their professional growth and development. Build and maintain relationships with local and national media outlets. Prepare press releases, respond to media inquiries, and serve as the company's primary spokesperson. Oversee the creation of high-quality content for various internal communications channels, including the company's intranet site, RushNet, email, and other employee-focused communications. Develop and manage internal communication initiatives to ensure employees are informed and engaged. This includes newsletters, announcements, senior executive messaging, and other internal communication initiatives. Develop and manage the organization's overarching response strategy, including scenario planning, media relations, and stakeholder communications. Monitor national, regional, trade, and social media. Track performance metrics to optimize strategies. Manage the communications budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and maximizing return on investment. Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field is required. Master's degree preferred. 10 years of experience in communications, public relations, or marketing, with a proven track record in a leadership role. Consideration is given to relevant experience and related certification. Other Skills and Abilities Required Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling content and effectively communicate complex information. Proven ability to manage media relations and serve as an organizational spokesperson. Experience in crisis communication and reputation management. Proficiency in digital and social media platforms, including content management and analytics tools. Strong leadership and team management skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
