Overview The Director of Competitions plays a pivotal role in developing and managing all on-snow competitions within the resort. This position encompasses planning, organizing, and executing competitions and races, ensuring these events align with the resort's strategic goals. The Director will collaborate closely with various stakeholders, including athletes, coaches, and operational staff to create an engaging and efficient competitive environment. This position requires strong leadership skills, an understanding of competitive racing, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing exceptional experiences for competitors and spectators alike. The Director must be adaptable and able to thrive in a fast paced environment, working at times on snow and in office settings, ensuring that all competitions foster a positive and professional atmosphere and successful competition department. This position reports to the VP of Resort Services. Responsibilities Planning and Coordination Develop, organize, and execute a comprehensive calendar of competitions. Coordinate with the Competition on-hill Operations Manager to ensure operational readiness. Ensure all competitions are compliant with relevant regulations and standards. Work with Eastern Region (USSA), Eastern Freestyle, IFSA, USASA, and US Ski and Snowboard Events Team. Renew Club Membership and uphold trail HR-7 Revised 6/15 Homologations. Set up releases, schedule site agreements, negotiate site use competition contract agreements, keep up with RA, timing trainings and chief of race and chief of courses certification for yourself and team. Team Management Oversee the Competition Office Coordinator and On Hill Competition Manager, ensuring the department is effectively staffed and equipped to meet the demands of competitions. Recruit, train, and manage officials and volunteers necessary for successful competition execution. Hire to with the goal of building a diverse team with in-depth with education and certification. Record Keeping and Reporting Maintain comprehensive records of all competitions, including results, participant data, and logistical details. Analyze competition outcomes and feedback to identify areas of improvement for future events. Complete all post-event paperwork, including injury reports, jury minutes, submit race and freestyle results. Coordinate with contractors about payment and onsite needs for them, including TDs, timers, and judges. Strategic Development Align competition offerings with the resort's overall strategic goals and objectives. Explore opportunities for growth and enhancement of competitive programs, including partnerships with local and national organizations. Manage all planning for TMC competition and timing needs. Work with Events Manager on summer events. Plan and execute budgets for the competition department. Collaboration and Communication Work alongside the Resort Services Leadership Team to support the planning and implementation of year-round events. Foster strong relationships with local and national governing bodies to stay updated on competition guidelines and opportunities. Communicate effectively with athletes, coaches, and officials to ensure clarity on competition details and requirements. Set up and run Team Captain meetings. Coordinate and manage all hill space. Coordinate with the VP of Resort Services to determine needs for each competition or race team at the resort. Work with the competition on hill manager, patrol, lifts, and various departments. Communicate with coaches, parents, and athletes. Other duties as assigned by your manager. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Experience or education in Sports Management, Event Management, Recreation Management, or a related field. Proven experience in competition and race, preferably within a ski resort or similar environment. The ideal candidate would have USASA membership and certification.
