The Director will own performance of Construction on the portfolio of projects allocated to the Central Team of Large Capital Programs (LCP)and will ensure to have projects deliver on time and in budget, with clear focus on Safety & Quality and strict respect of WEC Ethics & Compliance rules. He/She is owning the sites of construction, and shall drive Safety targets as low as possible, act as a role model in that sense, and ensuring the team reaches their milestones for successful completion on time of at factories sites. The Director will use strong organizational alignment and relationship building skills to influence both internal and external resources, producing tangible results that ultimately result in efficient execution of construction.
In addition, the Director, Construction LCP will leverage their knowledge to support feasibility assessments and early cost estimates for new Engineering, Procurement and construction (EPC) ideas across the company or Factory Sites development, whether related to Growth, Maintenance or Improvement.
The Director will recruit & direct the Project Construction & Commissioning Managers in the LCPs, and coordinate their activities, and ensure and support the resourcing of the same across the various disciplines. This role will ensure performance evaluation & growth of this strategic team of Construction leaders to prepare succession plannings and Knowledge Transfers.
The Director, Construction Large Capital Projects (LCP) will be responsible for creating consistent standards, processes & tools for the execution of construction related tasks within large capital projects that contain Construction (Civil Works, installation, dismantling) aspects. This role will ensure that these standards are efficiently executed through creating proper governance.
The Director of Construction LCP will support the Directors of Engineering (LCP) and Procurement (LCP) in assessing costs, schedule & risks during tendering of new projects by Fuel BU or other Businesses in WEC, and during execution of the above mentioned projects while negotiating, preparing for, and signing civil works or installation subcontracts, or Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) contracts across the globe. This role consists in developing the Construction strategy on each LCP in complete coordination & agreement with the LCP teams to find construction support (could be Civil Engineering Services, geotechnical expertise, foundation experts, construction or installation companies, etc.) as needed in a timely & cost-effective manner.
The Director Construction LCP will help & support the strategy and long-term vision to the entirety of the GOS capital program ensuring budget adherence and optimization of efficient capital investments across GOS.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This is a central role within LCP organization, covering Construction aspects of all major capital programs. Ensure standards exist for each construction discipline.
Creates standards and expectations for construction deliverables and timing for major capital programs.
Provide governance and oversite around the standards and expectations and be intimately familiar with the LCPs scope and progress to date.
Develop and maintain relationships with the Westinghouse leadership for effective delivery of Project scope. Engage to support and to use effective influence/communication to lift barriers to successful completion scope.
Establish, lead and coordinate cross-functional team to execute on LCP construction scope.
Provide strategic direction and input on delivery model selection (in-source / out-source) EPC scope and negotiation input into singing an EPC Contract.
Ensure consistency in Construction approach across the 3 Fuel Factory locations (US, UK & Sweden) & support synergies in order to allow factories homogenization & repeatability to optimize development & construction costs, optimization of procurement costs related to bigger volumes & dedicated partnerships, but also allow interchangeability of parts (check Export Control) and training & growth of personnel across the locations, promoting a 1 Westinghouse factory model.
Ensure to create a virtuous cost-conscious model during design by consistently checking what was done in the past or made by our competitors or partners, search for valuable comparisons and be the role model in pushing for optimization (time & costs), maintainability and accessibility.
Who You Are:
As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:
BS Engineering or construction management
MBA degree is preferred
15+ years of leadership experience in construction preferably site management experience, or project management with site presence
PMP Certification Preferred
Green Belt Lean Six Sigma Preferred
Strong understanding of construction related projects
Strong industrial safety and Human Performance (HuP) mindset, awareness of Nuclear standards
Strong Change Management Skills
Effective communicator both verbal and written
Excellent facilitation and leadership skills working with both internal and external resources
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with customers, partners, and internal and external stakeholders is required.
Problem solver, and action driven, able to create, maintain & leverage high level relationships with construction suppliers, and address difficult situation
Experience in working and leading in a matrix organization
Uses fact based, structured decision-making process to initiate and support appropriate actions
Knows how to effectively exchange information, instructions and ideas within across functional teams
Understands and adheres to all policies, procedures, and guidelines pertaining to safety, health, environmental and quality assurance emphasizing this perspective in their own work and in the work of others
Knowledge and understanding of the Project Management Body of Knowledge.
